Since the beginning of the Egghead Island arc in One Piece, each revelation made by Dr. Vegapunk may have unlocked new mysteries, but it has also introduced new questions for One Piece fans. The biggest question among all of this is why Joy Boy and the First Twenty Nations got into a battle that not only destroyed the Great Kingdom but also made it a forbidden subject.
In the latest chapters, Vegapunk not only revealed that one of the Ancient Weapons was used to destroy the Lulusia Kingdom with the help of the Mother Flame that was stolen from him, but he also talked about how Joy Boy possessed all three of the Ancient Weapons and wanted to give them to the future generations of One Piece.
All these reasons and the previous revelations about Joy Boy and the Great Kingdom point out that the World Government fought Joy Boy and the Great Kingdom for the possession of the Ancient Weapons, and while they got their hands on one of them, Joy Boy managed to hide the rest of them around the One Piece universe.
The Reason Behind the Establishment of the World Government
Many One Piece fans might not know this, but the World Government was formed after twenty monarchs from all over the world banded together. While many believed they came together to form a united authority to govern the world, they actually united to form an army called the Alliance to fight a common enemy.
This enemy was none other than the Great Kingdom, also known as the Ancient Kingdom. In chapter 1115, Vegapunk revealed that the Great Kingdom possessed technological advancements that were impossible to replicate even after 900 years. These technological advancements were likely seen as a threat by the other nations.
This is why they allied together and decided to wage a war against the Great Kingdom. They most likely also tried to take control of the Ancient Weapons that were probably a property of the Great Kingdom, as they could have easily turned the war around because of their power to destroy the entire One Piece world.
Joy Boy Led the War Against the World Government
Vegapunk has already established that Joy Boy was an important individual in the Great Kingdom and also controlled all three Ancient Weapons. Therefore, he had multiple roles to play in the war against the World Government. The biggest role, however, that Joy Boy could have would be as the leader of the Great Kingdom’s army.
Joy Boy was presumed to be kindhearted, just like Luffy. In his naivety, he might have invited the First Twenty to the Great Kingdom, and they might have used this opportunity to destroy the kingdom by taking possession of their own weapons. This could possibly be the reason behind Joy Boy’s apology, which One Piece fans got to see during the Fish-Man Island arc.
Therefore, it can be stated that the World Government and Joy Boy fought for the control of the Ancient Weapons, and while the World Government got hold of one of these weapons (Uranus), Joy Boy managed to hide the rest of them, and they are still hidden away from the clutches of the World Government in One Piece.
