It was chapter 1096 of the One Piece manga where the story behind Kaido’s Devil Fruit was revealed. His Fruit was actually a prize for the Celestial Dragons’ Native Hunting Competition in God Valley. However, Emporio Ivankov and Ginny were about to steal these Fruits under the chaos of Rock Pirates.
Ivankov was merely inches away from consuming the Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon. We might have got a different version of the story where Kaido didn’t have the Fish Fish Fruit. But would he still be as infamous as he is right now in the story? Is it Kaido or his Devil Fruit that makes the personality so significantly strong?
How strong would Kaido be without his Fish-Fish Devil Fruit in One Piece?
Kaido, along with Devil Fruit, has been quite infamous in the One Piece world. However, it’s an interesting question to wonder whether Kaido became infamous because of the Devil Fruit or it’s the other way around. Chapter 1096 suggests the Azure Dragon Fruit already had a reputation before Kaido ate it, which would explain why the World Nobles made it a prize for their Native Hunting Competition.
However, Kaido didn’t rely on the powers of Devil Fruit. His main stream of power was Haki! The fact that he is robust in a fight has minimal to do with his Dragon scales, but it largely depends on his Conqueror’s Haki he coats them in. Even without Devil Fruit powers or Haki, his body is naturally strong. He wouldn’t be as helpless as people might assume without the powers of the Azure Dragon.
What would’ve happened if Kaido consumed the Horm-Horm Fruit in One Piece?
If Kaido acquired powers from the Horm-Horm Fruit, he would use them much differently than we’ve seen it being used so far. He could use adrenaline boosts and painkillers to maintain endurance during a fight. Or he might increase the size of his body to reinforce offensive power. There were several ways Kaido would’ve used the fruit.
If Kaido consumed the Horm Horm Fruit, he would simply become a Hormone Controlling Human. However, it would be safe to assume that he won’t be as efficient with the fruit as the Okama King. However, this will indeed change several aspects of the plot.
This Paramecia Devil Fruit could’ve changed his beast motif. Kaido is given the moniker of the Strongest Creature because he can turn into a Dragon. Without the Fish-Fish Devil Fruit, he could still be called a creature because of his horns. However, the Devil Fruit plays an important role in articulating a crucial theme. The Beast Pirates (if they can still be called that) would have to pick up the animal-theme slack for their boss.
