While many hardcore fans may have disliked the latest sequel trilogy of the Star Wars cinematic universe, these movies were a gateway into the future of the franchise going forward, which was full of potential to make something new and continue the franchise’s legacy.
At the Star Wars Celebration Event in 2023, that potential was realized when the return of Daisy Ridley, who played Rey Skywalker in the last trilogy, was confirmed in the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order.
But fans were equally eager to know whether John Boyega, who played the role of Finn in the last series, would make his appearance in the upcoming film or not, something that the actress wished but didn’t know about.
But considering what we know of the upcoming film so far, a new theory related to a hefty time-skip has popped up which claims that he might not just be back in the future but also may have become a Jedi Master.
John Boyega Might Return As Finn In The Upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order As A Jedi Master
While nothing concrete was set in stone back then, people were receiving reports of Disney and Lucasfilm working on a project for the Star Wars franchise, which was later revealed to be the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order which will be an entirely new project since the last trilogy.
As per the protagonists of other series, Daisy Ridley is being claimed to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in the new film, while a new theory explains how John Boyega might also make his much-anticipated return as Finn in the movie.
It was during the Star Wars Celebration Event in 2023 that the upcoming film was officially announced along with a few details that were revealed, among which it was stated that the events that will transpire in the movie will take place almost 15 years in the future from the last movie (via ScreenRant).
As we witnessed Finn’s affinity and attunement to The Force, fans realized that the character had a lot of potential to grow. Thus, the theory suggests that with almost a decade and a half passing between The Rise of Skywalker and the upcoming film, Finn may have had time to train and fine-tune his skills and harness the power of The Force to its fullest extent while also succeeding to forge his own lightsaber, making him a Jedi Master.

This will also prove to be an amazing plot device, where both Rey and Finn will be striving to establish a new Jedi Order in the Galaxy, making the film’s plot that much more impactful.
Why Was The New Star Wars Trilogy A Disappointment?
While the upcoming film might show promise, at least theoretically, the last big screen trilogy by Lucasfilm in the form of The Skywalker Saga failed hard on the expectations of the public.
The major reason for the aversion of the fandom and their dislike towards the new series stemmed from the fact that almost all these films were a long departure from the stories that were told before. The continuation from the original trilogies into the new one was uneven and sometimes out of character for the most beloved characters from the franchise, Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker being the best example.
Therefore this disconnect, even among the subsequent film in the trilogy itself, soured the experience of the new series tremendously for the die-hard fans of the cinematic universe.
