Renowned for even winning the young audience’s hearts, thanks to his prominent roles in films like Christopher Robin (2018), the 52-year-old has given some of the most sensational performances for the cinema to cherish.

For one who has performed tremendously in almost all genres, starting from action to thriller to even rom-coms, when it comes to the franchise that best suits McGregor, the options are many; with the massive Star Wars franchise probably having the most votes.

However, there is a franchise that Henry Cavill has already bagged, and which will be the perfect match for Ewan McGregor for all too valid reasons: The Highlander reboot franchise!

When the Highlander franchise first came into being back in 1986 with the same name movie starring Christopher Lambert in the lead as a mysterious Scottish swordsman who gains immortality and defends the Earth from other notorious immortals, it earned incredible acclamation for a movie that was just the first in the franchise.

Thus, encouraged by the approval, it went on to spawn three more sequels till 2007 (plus, an anime movie as well, i.e. Highlander: The Search for Vengeance), with Highlander: The Source being the fifth and final installment of the film series. But now, that is about to change as Henry Cavill takes on the lead role of Connor MacLeod / Russell Nash for an epic reboot of the franchise.

While Cavill will undoubtedly give an exceptional performance, given his unbeatable record with The Witcher series, another name who could absolutely nail it would be none other than Ewan McGregor. Although the lead role would be the most perfect role for him in the reboot franchise, other roles would suit as equally immaculately as well.

First off, the Obi-Wan Kenobi star’s love and pride for his home country and its heritage, i.e. Scotland, makes him the best fit for playing a representative of his homeland on the big screen. Furthermore, his unforgettable performances in his other movies which are either set in Scottish themes or feature the country prominently further gives him the edge over almost every other actor.

Then there’s his incredible versatility as an actor in capturing the perfect emotions required for the character he is playing coupled with his iconic sword-wielding ability (as was flawlessly depicted in his big-screen projects like Jack the Giant Slayer and the Star Wars prequel trilogy among others), which leave no place for doubt for Ewan McGregor to not get a role in the Highlander reboot.

Last, but not least, there’s McGregor agreeing to it himself!

Even Ewan McGregor Agrees! …Kinda

Although he didn’t specifically mention that he would like to bag a role in the Highlander reboot franchise, Ewan McGregor did say that he’s down for working in more Scottish films. While gushing on and on about his homeland during the recent San Francisco Fan Expo, the Trainspotting star said (via Collider):

“Scotland is so beautiful, it’s the most amazingly beautiful country, and the landscape and the people there are amazing,” McGregor enthused. “I’ve enjoyed working there over the years. [After listing off the movies he has worked on in Scotland] I love working at home, I’d like to do more.”

And there you have it: even Ewan McGregor is down for starring in movies that show more of the culture and landscapes of his homeland. Thus, putting it in a nutshell, we believe it’s time the filmmakers approached the Scottish hotshot for the Highlander reboot movie because they most certainly won’t be getting turned down, that’s for sure!
