The 2020 pandemic hit Hollywood as it did the rest of the world. The lockdown caused a production halt for movies and TV shows, however, many celebrities still raked in millions, including the action star Jackie Chan. While stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger dominated headlines for several reasons, Chan, who is believed to be overlooked in Hollywood, made a whopping $40 million, ranking among Forbes’ The World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities in 2020.
Jackie Chan Made Staggering $40 Million During the Pandemic
With a career dating back to the 1960s, Jackie Chan has showcased his enduring star power with hits like Rush Hour and The Foreigner. The movies have solidified his ability to stand alongside the Hollywood action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Reports state that the Hong Kong actor made a staggering $40 million during the pandemic-stricken year 2020. His substantial earnings are primarily attributed to his movie career that followed in 2020 with films like Vanguard and All U Need Is Love.
Apart from his silver screen prowess, his talents also extend to a flourishing music career with several albums under his name. The Rush Hour star is also known to own multiple production companies, along with a chain of movie theaters across China.

Jackie Chan Opened Up About Being Typecast
Considering his expertise in martial arts, Jackie Chan emerged as an action star in the film industry. Following his Hollywood breakthrough with Rush Hour, he continued starring in action movies. However, the actor shared that he would be stepping back from doing his own stunts in 2012, saying that he wants to take care of his body.
After taking a step back from action movies, he returned with the 2017 film The Foreigner with a desire to break free from typecasting. Later, in an interview, he shared that he wants the audience to see his potential as an actor “who does action” instead of only being recognized as an action star.
During a 2020 interview with Filmelier, he opened up about getting the offer to play somewhat similar roles in movies after The Karate Kid. “All these years after the Karate Kid, I received so many scripts, but the role is [always] a Hong Kong policeman,” he told the outlet.
Typecasting has been a concerning issue for many actors, and while some have been successfully able to break through from an image, many continue to face such challenges. Chan, however, has also shared that he will continue to do action-comedy films and is expected to return in a fourth installment in the Rush Hour series.
