Sylvester Stallone has established himself as a multifaceted star. He has done dozens of fascinating, iconic, and blockbuster films like Rocky and Rambo. But First Blood was a game-changer project in his career. He played John Rambo, the lead character in the movie, which remained one of his best on-screen roles. The actor once revealed that he hated the original edit of his 1982 hit classic. He said that the story was terrifying, claiming,

“The original Rambo was so bloodthirsty… the story was so hard, so terrifying every step of the way. I think that’s one reason the book took so long to get done. What I did with Rambo was try to keep one foot in the Establishment and one foot in the outlaw or frontier image.”

The Death Race 2000 movie star continued,

“I wanted him to be accepted by the mainstream—but also be a criminal. So he has some strong patriotic views—and he loves the system. He just doesn’t like a lot of the people who live and work in it.”

According to reports, before the Rambo franchise became what it is today, several directors and producers in the 1970s attempted to make a film adaptation based on the 1972 novel First Blood by David Morrell. However, with the likes of Sylvester Stallone, the film based on Morell’s book became a massive hit in 1982 at the global box office.
