Due to the WGA strike (which occurred from May 2 to September 27, 2023) and the SAG-AFTRA strike (that ended on November 9, 2023), HBO has to shuffle its schedule. It has led to the delay in several of its shows.
However, on Nov 2, a few days before the strike concluded, HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys outlined the current 2024 schedule.
It has quite an impressive list, but some of the anticipated shows were missing. These include The White Lotus, Euphoria, and The Last of Us. It seems as if HBO is now set to release the five shows in 2025, out of which only 1 has a global fanbase.
1 Standout HBO Show in 2025 Lineup, Out of 5
Here’s good news for the fans of the HBO series: The network has now confirmed the release of its five shows in 2025. But it won’t be wrong to say that out of all these five shows, only one is highly anticipated, which is the post-apocalyptic drama The Last of Us. We’ll discuss other shows, too, but let’s first get into the update on Troy Baker-starrer.
The Last of Us Season 2
Season 2 of The Last of Us will continue adapting the franchise’s second video game. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will reprise their roles, and the show is set to return in 2025. Though fans might need to wait a bit, it’s officially confirmed to return in two years.
The last update came from HBO boss Casey Bloys, who confirmed that production for the show is expected to start in February 2024 (via Variety). So, yes, 2025 is the year of Last of Us fans.
The show is universally beloved mostly for its storytelling and characters. That is one of the reasons why the second season has already generated similar expectations and hope among fans.
Euphoria Season 3
Euphoria Season 3 is experiencing delays mainly due to coordinating the busy cast’s schedules, production delays, and the unfortunate passing of Angus Cloud.
But the Season 2 of Teen Drama is confirmed for a 2025 release. It hopes for an early 2025 premiere, yet fans must prepare to wait for over a year before new episodes are made available.
Welcome to Derry (It Prequel)
The release of Welcome to Derry was supposed to be in 2024, but it got delayed due to strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Now, the series is set to premiere in 2025.
Set in the 1960s, Welcome to Derry will delve into Pennywise’s feeding cycle before the It films. The show narrates the haunting experiences of a group of children terrorized by the menacing clown.
The White Lotus Season 3
The White Lotus Season 2 concluded dramatically in December 2022. Its third season is likely to return in 2025. Due to the impact of WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the premiere was pushed to 2025, as confirmed by HBO and Max chairman/CEO Casey Bloys in October 2023. Even the creator, Mike White, told Vanity Fair that the show will “going to be longer, bigger, crazier.”
And Just Like That Season 3
And Just Like That (a sequel to Sex and the City) is getting its third season in 2025. In a statement announcing the upcoming season, Max Head of Content Sarah Aubrey confirmed that the series was the “most-watched returning Max Original to date” (reported by Deadline).
There is no doubt the success of its previous seasons led to the making of the third entry. The confirmation and sneak peeks were shown in a recent Max promo for the 2024/2025 lineup.
