Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch 2 has been through a rough patch in recent times, with many players finding the game boring and stale. That has been further complicated by the announcement and successful closed beta of Marvel Rivals from NetEase Games.
While Blizzard has been trying to get its players back into the fold while fending off intense competition in a crowded genre of shooter titles, its efforts have largely fallen short, but that may be about to change.
Overwatch 2’s New Season May Turn Things Around
With Marvel Rivals breathing down Blizzard Entertainment’s neck and leading it in several crucial areas despite not having a release date, Overwatch 2 has desperately needed a kick in the rear in order to get back into the competition.
With Season 12 of the hero-based first-person tactical shooter on the way, a new Mythic Skin for one of its fan-favorite characters has drawn a lot of positive responses to its announcement, considering that the character in question is quite popular among its players.
This skin isn’t the only interesting skin that is coming to the game, as there are plenty of characters who are getting new skins within Season 12 of Overwatch 2 that could bring old players back into the game.
Could Anubis Help Overwatch 2 Get Back on Track?
A former AI program tasked with assisting humanity to sustain all life on Earth, Anubis quickly deduced that they were the biggest threat to life and began the Omnic Crisis, thereby setting the story of Overwatch in motion.
The new Anubis Mythic Skin for Reaper, a damaged hero in the game, has many Overwatch 2 players excited to dive back into the game – a better response than the one its skin for Reinhardt could ever manage when it was announced.
The post below showcases how Anubis’ latest avatar might just be what Blizzard Entertainment needs to begin fighting back against NetEase, its current rival.
While the new skin has many Anubis fans excited, many Overwatch players share the feeling that it may have been suited for the pacifist-turned-violent Omnic Rammatra.
However, other players are quite happy with this new addition to the game, complimenting the new look it gives Reaper while appreciating the Anubis reference that remains rooted in Overwatch’s overall narrative.
While it remains to be seen if Overwatch 2 gains any traction from this new addition, it is evident that Blizzard Entertainment needs to sustain the momentum it has managed to gain from its players and continue to hone the experience it currently offers in order to have any hopes of beating Marvel Rivals.
