Palworld is all the rage on the market currently. Looking at it objectively, however, it is an open-world game that focuses on the player trying to survive on an island where they are surrounded by creatures called Pals. The title has been dubbed “Pokemon with Guns.” The game was also met with a lot of controversy, especially by fans of Pokemon.
Further proving that no publicity can be bad for something in the public domain, the game recently took the online streaming platform Twitch by storm. The game entered early access on January 19 and has already received a lot of love from viewers.
Palworld’s Success Continues as It Gathers Eyeballs on Twitch and the Internet
As mentioned, the title entered early access on January 19, and even before that, it was a massive success on Twitch. It is most certainly surprising that the game’s stream has been receiving so much attention on a platform where one can play and stream some of the most popular games in the world.
This includes the likes of DOTA 2, League of Legends, The Finals, Counter-Strike 2, and so much more. The game has already hit over 400,000 thousand peak viewers, a 317% jump in the last three days. Over 30 thousand streamers were also reported to be streaming the title.
It gathered 723 thousand hours of watch time on its debut day. And the game’s watch time currently stands at 6.9 million hours. The site that reported these official stats is Sullygnome, which reports numbers and statistics to highlight the most popular games currently being streamed on the streaming platform. As per the site, it is trending number one with a 10,000% jump in watch time in the past three days compared to the previous three days.
In the last three days, the game has beaten the likes of Grand Theft Auto V and EA Sports FC 24, even though the latter has one of the most famous promotions, Team of the Year, going on. This compares the game’s change in watch time, stream time, and peak viewers, not the lifetime statistics. That would be different since Palworld only came out a few days ago, and the other titles have been around for months, while some, like GTA V, have stayed relevant for years.
It is also possible statistics reached the level they did because the game was released for creators, and viewers wanted to see what it looked like before launch out of intrigue. This was probably because of the controversy and the fact that the game has been making waves.
The fact that cute little Pals can be hunted, killed, and engaged in labor apart from serving as henchmen to the player is most certainly one of the darkest aspects of the game. This juxtaposition has probably made the game as relevant and talked about as it is now.
Regardless of what one has to say about the game’s content and offering and how incredibly dark and sometimes distasteful it can be, one cannot say it is seemingly working. With so many games coming and going, it doesn’t take much time before another replaces a game and then for the cycle to repeat; only time will tell how well the game fares. Similarly, it would need some time at the chart-busting position to ensure its popularity and make it sell like hotcakes.
When I wrote the article, the game was already in Early Access on Steam and was on a 10% discount. Not to mention that its price tag isn’t that of a full-fledged AAA title.
