Paul Rudd Confirmed for ‘Ghostbusters 2020’

Sony casts Ant-Man star, Paul Rudd for the next installment of the Ghostbusters franchise. The movie simply called Ghostbusters 2020, is scheduled for release July 10, 2020.

After the 2016 reboot (which apparently did not live up to the hype at the box office) the paranormal movie is set to make a comeback. Directed by Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters 2020 will serve as the much-awaited third part of the franchise. Production and filming will begin this summer. The film will be produced by Ivan Reitman, former director of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters 2 (1989) and father of the current director, Jason Reitman.

In a tweet from the official Ghostbusters page, the team behind the production released a video of Paul Rudd and captioned it: “Look who accepted the call.” Jason Reitman said in an interview:

Director’s Admiration

“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance.”

Admitting that he’s thrilled Rudd will be joining the cast of the Ghostbusters universe. Reitman will pen the script together with Monster House’s Gil Kenan. Returning stars such as Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Dan Aykrod are also rumored to make appearances to the franchise.

The Story!

The story will revolve around young generation of heroes who delve into the world of ghostbusting business. Stranger Things’s Finn Wolfhard and Annabelle Comes Home’s Grace Mckenna are both confirmed for the lead roles, with Carrie Coon a currently unnamed single mother.

Rudd will portray the role of a teacher. As someone who has played comical characters (such as Ant-Man) this definitely seems in Rudd‘s wheelhouse. Ghostbusters will be a mix of action, comedy and horror.

The movie was secretly being developed by a studio that goes under the code name Rust City. After Reitman was officially announced as the director last January, a teaser trailer and release date were announced the following day.
