James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was one of the saving graces of the DCEU, which led to the creation of Peacemaker. Peacemaker, played by John Cena, will be one of the few vestiges of the DCEU that will be sticking around in Gunn’s new DCU. Having already delivered a smash hit of a season with the second one on the way, a theory suggests the second one could include Peacemaker’s least favourite Leaguer’s ally.

Peacemaker finally saw himself face to face with a member of the Bat-family in Titans: Beast World  #5, we see a certain ex-sidekick of Batman face off with Peacemaker to prevent Amanda Waller from releasing a disease. Peacemaker stands guard until he is confronted by Nightwing. Peacemaker then goes on to admit that he hates Nightwing.

Nightwing would be perfect for Peacemaker Season 2

Given that the Peacemaker show, starring John Cena, will be airing as a part of the new DCU, Nightwing would already exist. This is simply because Brave and the Bold, the Batman project announced by James Gunn for his new continuity, will feature Damian Wayne as Robin, which means that this iteration of Batman will have already cycled through Nightwing, Red Hood and Red Robin. Given that the film will follow Batman’s adventures with his son Talia Al Ghul, Nightwing could make his first appearance in Peacemaker Season 2, building out the world of the DCU.

Peacemaker’s hatred for Nightwing comes from his perception that Nightwing has some twisted sense of superiority, something that Peacemaker wishes to ‘beat out of him’. The character does not seem to have a legitimate reason to hate Nightwing but sees him with all his insecurities reflected. Nightwing as a hero is respected even by the most notorious of villains, but Peacemaker finds himself not getting any respect from anyone, whether it is friends, allies or enemies.

Peacemaker is not the only one being carried over from the DCEU

Most of James Gunn’s work in the DCEU might see itself get carried over to the newly minted DCU. This is also set to include Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller. With Waller being a show that will feature the actress, it seems that all the things that were James Gunn’s invention in the DCEU might get a second home in the DCU. Peacemaker has always worked on closely associating with Amanda Waller, killing Rick Flag when he tries to make sensitive information public, on Waller’s orders.

Gunn could have a bigger arc for Peacmaker planned in his new DCU, one that could closely work with other vigilantes like Batman and Vigilante, all while Amanda Waller keeps an eye on things. James Gunn has also said (allegedly) that his new DCU will take a page from the Justice League Unlimited, the animated series, which has an entire arc including Waller and the Justice League. Could it be that we will see a live-action Project: Cadmus? Only time will tell.
