Ryan Reynolds Hated His First Appearance as Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds despised every moment of his first-ever cinematic appearance as Deadpool, perhaps even more intensely than the audiences did. While the reasons for his sentiment are crystal clear, a puzzle piece that has consistently baffled fans is the exact motivation behind his decision to participate in a film that nearly destroyed the very essence of the character. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Reynolds revealed,

“It was a very frustrating experience. I was already attached to the Deadpool movie. We hadn’t at that point written a script yet. [Origins] came along and it was sort of like, ‘Play Deadpool in this movie or we’ll get someone else to.’ And I just said, ‘I’ll do it, but it’s the wrong version. Deadpool isn’t correct in it.’”

Because of the writers’ strike back then, the actor had to improvise and write a lot of his own dialogues in the film, moreover it neither had any predefined structure for the character nor an adequate amount of research. And thus Ryan Reynolds predicted the downfall, by saying,

“I said, ‘You guys, people are gonna go nuts over this.’ And he was like, ‘I know right?” And I was like, ‘No, not in a good way.’”

Lo and Behold,  fans were outraged by the fact that a perfectly good character was utterly ruined, effectively obliterating any prospects for potential standalone shows or future films. However, to everyone’s surprise, Reynolds made a triumphant return as Deadpool and with a bang, winning millions of hearts along the way.
