As it is almost time for Phase 5 to start with Ant-Man’s third installation Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, scriptwriter Jeff Loveness shares his thoughts on the avid use of time travel in Avengers: Endgame. He further explains how the concept of time travel was used in the movie to conduct the time heist against Thanos.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness shares that as the concept of time travel was used as the main tool against Thanos, they wouldn’t want two big movies based on the same concept. So though Kang has been taken from the comics, there is a little bit of change.

Kang Will Be Different From What the Comics Say

Jeff Loveness shares that while studying Jonathan Major’s character Kang, he went in too deep into the character’s profile and summed up plans on how to introduce him to the MCU. His research led him to Rama-Tut, who was a variant of Kang that ruled over Egypt as a Pharaoh. He also researched Scarlet Centurion who was 23rd in line of Kang’s successors as a son. Loveness also discovered that Scarlet Centurion wore a suit of armor and was an intelligent individual who was skilled in military warfare and strategies.
“Too deep, too deep! I got way into the Rama-Tut and Scarlet Centurion stuff, trying to read my way through that, and the Celestial Madonna with Mantis! That’s the joy of the character. He is just this infinite snake eating infinite tails, a man literally at war against himself.”
Loveness spoke about how he was a little taken aback when he concluded the fact that Endgame had so many instances of time travel that it became the saving point of the movie and Kang too relies on his powers to travel to the past, and future. So taking into consideration that if Kang were to use time travel as his main prowess, the movie Kang Dynasty would become no different from Endgame. So now rather than just hopping into time, his character has been “broaden out into the multiverse” just because fans would know what to expect if the was kept the same from comics.
“I haven’t seen a time-travelling character done with such intricacy and exploration. I’m a little bummed because ‘Endgame’ did so much time travel, so you almost need to broaden him out a little bit too, maybe broaden out into the multiverse a little more, the dimensionality of the character, the limitless freedom he has while also being completely uprooted from his time and himself”
Jeff Loveness further added that, though the character plot and design have been taken from the comics, the movie will not hold the same character design as Kang. The foundation might be the same but the rest will be different because if everything was as same as that of comics, fans would know what to expect.

Though not much is known about the Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars they should be released on May 2, 2025, and May 1, 2026, respectively. With the multiverse in play, Secret Wars is believed to be the biggest of all the Avengers films released so far. Though Kang is believed to be the main antagonist, there will be many other villains but MCU is also bringing the party to him. MCU will make many new introductions together with some veteran characters of the comic who will be brought back.
