In a no-holds-barred honest essay that appeared in The Hollywood Reporter, the Taxi Driver director condemned a few prominent film review sites that took down Jennifer Lawrence’s film Mother, directed by Darren Aronofsky, in brutal fashion. After watching the film, Scorsese was of the opinion that it was a true masterpiece, and was wrongly judged for its F rating.

After I had a chance to see Mother,  I was even more disturbed by this rush to judgment, and that’s why I wanted to share my thoughts. People seemed to be out for blood, simply because the film couldn’t be easily defined or interpreted or reduced to a two-word description. It was so tactile, so beautifully staged and acted.”

Scorsese also elaborated on the various technical aspects of the film that stood out for him, and concluded by saying that it deserved not just small praise, but a huge applause.
