CD Projekt Red is quite possibly going through one of the greatest comebacks in the video game industry because both Cyberpunk 2077 and its newly released DLC, Phantom Liberty, have shot to the top of the Steam charts. The base game was originally released three years ago in 2020, and to call the launch an absolute disaster would be an understatement due to the countless game-breaking bugs that accompanied it.
But it seems like the developer has drastically learned from its past mistakes, as its title’s latest update 2.0 and the expansion are both receiving critical and commercial acclaim from all across the industry.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty Become Best Sellers
CD Projekt Red’s ambitious title is finally getting the positive attention it had been hoping for, as both Cyberpunk 2077 and its anticipated expansion, Phantom Liberty, have made their way to the top of the best-seller list on Steam. In fact, at the time of writing this, the game and its DLC have secured their spots in the Top 2 of the list, with the base game being at number 1, followed immediately by the expansion.
Since the game’s initial release, fans have been looking forward to any kind of additional content that could have made the overall experience better.
Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts have been hoping for CD Projekt Red to fully realize the endless potential of the game’s world, lore, RPG mechanics, and characters in Night City and its surrounding universe, and it feels like their requests have finally been heard. With the base game getting a new update 2.0 and its DLC just about to be released, CDPR’s title has received a brand new life, with gamers actually excited to check the game out in its ultimate form.
Due to that, for the first time after a huge gap since 2022, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached over 115k players on Steam alone.
Cyberpunk 2077 Occupies the Top 2 Spots on Steam
One of the biggest reasons for Cyberpunk 2077‘s recent boost in sales is the anticipation that has been building up for its recently released update 2.0 and the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC. CD Projekt Red’s latest title breaking the charts could most definitely lead to an even higher number of new players who were still on the fence about checking the game out.
Naturally, the team at CDPR is quite ecstatic about the whole situation, with the Quest Director for both the base game and its expansion, Pawel Sasko, expressing his gratitude to fans on X for their “incredible support.”

What’s even more impressive is that both Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty have overtaken some of the biggest video game titles of the year. These include the huge Dungeons & Dragons adventure Baldur’s Gate 3 and Bethesda’s ambitious space epic Starfield. Moreover, despite being available at a discounted price with a brand new expansion, even Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 was not able to keep its spot on the charts.
Cyberpunk 2077 achieving this level of success is a comeback story that the gaming industry rarely gets to witness. With update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red was looking for a redemption story unlike any other. And it is safe to say that it was highly successful in finally finding its footing.
