In the latest Xbox Podcast, Phil Spencer had quite the vision to share. There’s a huge mention of cloud gaming and a major focus on breaking away from the chains of exclusivity. And, in the midst of it all, there’s a clever strategy behind attracting players from all platforms. Playstation included.
The podcast started off with a conversation about exclusive titles coming to other platforms, but slowly found its way into making Xbox a brand that appeals to everyone. By everyone, they mean all platforms that were curious about Xbox. Now, they’ll get to have a taste of it.
According to the plan, Xbox will appeal to everyone
Well, at least, that’s the plan. In the podcast, Phil Spencer focused a lot on cross-progression, cross-platform, and accessibility for everyone who wants to enjoy gaming. Not just Xbox exclusives, but games in general. Going forward, the availability of old (and new) games that were never associated with the likes of PC PlayStation, or PC to begin with.
Yep, games like Forza, Halo, and others will likely make it to multiple platforms. If not soon, well, hopefully later on. At least, that’s what the indication of having multi-platform access to Microsoft’s library can mean. At the time of writing, there’s no official mention of which exclusives are coming to other platforms, but there are two community-driven titles and two smaller games that will soon see the light of different platforms.
Microsoft’s own Game Pass will see this change too. With titles like Diablo IV coming to players who are part of the popular subscription service. As this goes on, more and more games will eventually become free from Microsoft-only availability.
The team’s focus is on making games more accessible
Along with the mention of cloud gaming and multi-platform availability, there’s a huge emphasis on Xbox’s brand in the podcast. As the platform breaks away from exclusivity, it wishes to create a safe haven for creators who are working hard to bring enriching experiences to everyone across the globe. This means gamers and audiences who don’t necessarily have a favorite platform, to begin with.
As the months pass, we’ll likely see more and more games available on a variety of screens and platforms, attracting the attention of anyone and everyone who wasn’t associated with Microsoft’s exclusive club initially. Is this really the next best move for Xbox? Well, only time will tell.
