The game is also confirmed to be released for PlayStation in Spring 2025. In the midst of this, fans are recalling statements made by Phil Spencer about the upcoming game’s exclusivity:

Another handle by ‘Damaged Sector’ added to the conversation and stated that Spencer was deliberately vague. He also alleged that the upcoming game might have already been under development for Sony’s ninth-generation console when Spencer made this statement.

The outrage on social media from fans cannot be dismissed, as this isn’t the first time that Phil Spencer has seemingly disappointed and enraged fans. Moreover, it is also not the first time that Spencer has not kept his part of the deal.

Spencer has backtracked on statements and promises he made earlier, too. For example, on record, he said that two of the games that crossed over to other platforms would allow the console brand to continue investing in those game’s franchises.

He also stated that it would make it easier to develop sequels and push those games forward:

However, among the two games crossing over, one was Hi-Fi Rush by Tango Gameworks, a studio closed down recently by Spencer’s team shortly after Hi-Fi Rush went multiplatform.

Moreover, the CEO’s promise to Activision-Blizzard‘s employees after the studio was acquired by Microsoft also lasted only four months before layoffs were announced. Considering these instances, it is clear why fans seem upset with him.

What do you think of the entire situation unfolding currently? Is this the last straw for Microsoft’s gaming brand? Is Indy going cross-platform good news, or does it spell doom for Microsoft? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
