PlayStation 5 new colours have been announced by Sony! They’ve coined it ‘the Deep Earth Collection.’ PlayStation’s latest State of Play gave us a new look at colors that add a nature-inspired touch to an already existing sense of style that is adored by everyone who’s a fan of PlayStation 5 consoles. This collection shows off three picks from a familiar colour palette: Sterling Silver, Cobalt Blue, and Volcanic Red.

While the Sterling Silver’s metal-esque design gives it a sturdy look, the Cobalt Blue and Volcanic Red are bright colors that uniquely blend with PlayStation 5’s default design. Similarly, the controllers synergize well with the console’s colours, standing out with each variation.

PlayStation 5’s new colours will be up for pre-ordering in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

At first glance, the Deep Rock Collection may seem like something we’ve seen in newer gadgets and vehicles post-2000 era, but the texture and inspiration for these colours stand out. Biomimicry is a design trend where artists tend to create tangible objects inspired by nature. According to Sony, our planet Earth has been the biggest inspiration for these new colour palettes. At a closer look, Earth’s deeper hues within its depths around Earth’s core as well as oceanic waves form a classic color combination that contrasts yet blends well together.

It’s a witty decision by Sony’s design team to take inspiration from colours we’ve noticed before but never felt in our hands, especially when we think of gaming consoles. In the words of Sony’s design team:

While crafting this new collection of DualSense controller and PS5 console cover colors, we drew inspiration from the beautiful and powerful hues found in the depths of planet Earth. We elevated the colors by adding a metallic finish for a touch of sophistication.

Volcanic Red boasts a rich blazing red tone. Cobalt Blue, on the other hand, presents a deep shade of blue with intriguing hints of purple. Lastly, Sterling Silver showcases a classic aesthetic with a subtle blue undertone.

With the hype of upcoming games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2, it only makes sense to share the excitement for PlayStation 5’s customisability, not just the library. We look forward to the Deep Earth Collection and the new art and stories it may inspire for the PlayStation 5 community.
