He-Man has long been one of the most favorite characters of fans when it comes to the superhero saga. A character originally originated through a Mattel toy line in 1982, he has developed a magnificent fanbase over the years, which probed him to appear on the television screens as well. He gained such massive recognition that it led to him getting his own live-action movie in 1987 too!
However, even though fans more or less liked it, the film got critically panned, thus closing the window for further live-action adaptations. But after the making of multiple animated movies and series that came after that, now creators are once again headed to bring a real-time film of him to life. Yet, this time, fans aren’t too excited about it because of their recent experiences with the same.
He-Man is Getting a Live-Action Reboot, but Fans are Unfazed About It
This version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe live-action reboot version has a long history of being in development; one that fans just might not want to explore. And after getting tossed away midway through its early development by the streaming giant Netflix, it has finally found its home with Amazon MGM Studios.
Even though Netflix was the home of three of the most recently created animated series of the superhero, i.e. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and Masters of the Universe: Revolution; they still decided to drop the live-action reboot, and now, Amazon is in the way of acquiring the rights to it, as per Deadline.
Further confirmed reports by The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that the power to direct the same is reportedly being negotiated in early talks with Travis Knight. Coming along with him is reportedly Chris Butler, the same person who notably wrote and co-directed masterpieces like the 2012 critically acclaimed horror-adventure animation film, ParaNorman.
However, fans are anything but excited about this news. The reason behind this is a rather understandable one: The three most recent animated series on Netflix about the Masters of the Universe helmed by Kevin Smith, which were notably massively acclaimed by critics, but not so well-received by the fans.
A majority of the reason behind this was because these series were more or less nothing like the shows that most fans grew up watching. As the director cum producer himself admitted during an interview with Variety: “Because I know what a fan base reacts like when they don’t get the thing they grew up watching.”
Thus, because what they received was far from what they expected, the series failed to appease fans the same way they did to the critics, leaving a sour taste behind for them. However, for this live-action, since Kevin Smith won’t be the one tailoring it but it would be created from another person’s perspective, there’s a higher chance that fans just might get what they want.
Still, for now, fans are still unfazed about the news of this live-action reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as ever.
Fans React to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Live-Action Reports
While one of the major reasons behind fans reacting so sourly to the news of getting a whole new live-action reboot from one of their favorite He-Man and the Masters of the Universe storylines is because of Kevin Smith’s animated versions on Netflix, that isn’t the only reason: Fans are worried about this version for reasons more than one.
This is why they have been taking to X to share their reactions and perspectives as to why they aren’t hyped for another live-action version, even though they are notably getting it after years. Here’s what they’re saying:
You know… I really don't want to see He-Man portrayed as a black waman of power.

So far, the future of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe live-action reboot doesn’t look all too well for the MOTU franchise. However, that doesn’t mean things can’t be corrected, and creators still have a lot of options through which they can garner fans’ interest back in the television franchise and in this real-time reboot.
