Rosamund Pike is one of the finest actresses in the industry. She started her film career in 2002 with the James Bond movie Die Another Day. In the film, she played the role of Miranda Frost (a Bond girl) alongside Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
This role was important for Pike, helping her make a mark in the industry. It set the stage for many of her memorable performances to come. On top of this role, the actress is famous for her roles in Jack Reacher (2012), Gone Girl (2014), Hostiles (2017), and the TV series State of the Union.
Her lead role in Gone Girl got her nominated for BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for Best Actress. Even though the 45-year-old has shown she can play a variety of characters in different movies, fans keep pigeonholing her into specific roles.
Rosamund Pike Expresses Anger Over Being Typecast
In an interview with Heart, Rosamund Pike expressed frustration with being repeatedly asked if it’s a relief to move away from icy characters.
She points out that people who ask this question may only be familiar with her roles in Bond and Gone Girl, even though she has played a variety of characters in other films like Pride and Prejudice, An Education, Hostiles, Barney’s Version, and A Private War. The Hollywood star went on to say:
“I’m Rosamund Pike. Please stop asking me if it’s relief to get away from icy characters. Have you seen Pride and Prejudice? Have you seen An Education? Have you seen Hostiles? Have you seen Barney’s version? Have you seen A Private War? And you realize when people ask you that you know, they say you made your name playing icy characters. They’ve probably only seen seen Bond and Gone Girl.”
This frustration comes from the fact that, despite her versatility, some people still only see her in certain types of roles. When actors get typecast, it makes it different for them to break out of these narrow perceptions and be appreciated for their talent.
Rosamund Pike’s Saltburn Role is Another Milestone in her Career
The Hammersmith’s native played a manipulative character who frames her husband for her fake death in Gone Girl. Her portrayal of Amy Dunne was dark yet had a touch of humor.
Lady Elspeth in Saltburn has similarities to Amy Dunne, making it Pike’s best role since 2014. It’s great to see Pike take on another complex character.
