Kung Fu Panda has for long entertained viewers with its unique storyline and characters, making it one of the top fan-favorite animated franchises of all time. Starring Jack Black as the great Dragon Warrior, its fourth part was recently announced by Dreamworks, slated to release by next year.
While fans were excited to have another part of the animated martial arts-based movie, the news of him appointing a new Dragon Warrior has fans in doubt that the Shang-Chi star Awakafina would be replacing him. This has created an uproar on social media as many are threatening to boycott the animated flick if such an event really takes place.
Kung Fu Panda 4 Is Confirmed After A Long Wait
After a long wait, the fourth sequel of the superhit martial arts movie has finally been confirmed. Expected to release by next year, Kung Fu Panda 4 will have Jack Black resume his fan-favorite adorable yet deadly Panda as he gets ready to resume his place as the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace.
The anticipated animated flick will have the old cast resume their respective role as well as have many new cast members including the two Oscar winners, Viola Davis and Ke Huy Quan, who will be voicing Chameleon and Han respectively. Also starring the Shang Chi star Awkwafina, the official synopsis of the movie reads (via Screen Rant),
“Po, the Dragon Warrior [is] tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace… he needs to quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position… Even worse, there’s been a recent sighting of a wicked, powerful sorceress, Chameleon… Po’s going to need some help. He finds it in the form of crafty, quick-witted thief Zhen [Awkwafina]… Po will discover that heroes can be found in the most unexpected places.”
These excerpts from the synopsis have fans believing that Kung Fu Panda 4 will have Po passing down his mantle of the Dragon Warrior to Awkwafina. This rumor has caused a considerable fuss, as many took to X to express they will be skipping the movie if this happens.
Fans Threaten To Boycott Kung Fu Panda 4
After the official synopsis of the movie went viral, the news of Awkwafina’s starring and a new Dragon Warrior deeply upset many loyal fans of the animated franchise. Soon enough, many fans started claiming that they would be boycotting the film if the Shang-Chi star really replaced Jack Black as the Dragon Warrior. Furthermore, many fear that with Awkwafina as Dragon Warrior, the franchise would get a new lead, leading to future spin-offs, which not all fans are keen on.

While many threatened to boycott the movie, others remained too critical of the actress. Still in development, it would be interesting to see how it fares out for the movie and whether the Marvel star would really become the new Dragon Warrior.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is expected to release on March 8, 2024.
