While fans have previously contemplated Rhaenyra’s interest in women, episode 6 finally confirms their speculation and how! Of course, there are few who believe that this storyline was unnecessary and pointless. However, what if we tell you that Rhaenyra’s romantic interest in women was also implied in George R.R. Martin’s book?

Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) relationship with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) is one of the most popular storylines in House of the Dragon. But now, it looks like Daemon might have some competition as Sonoya Mizuno’s Mysaria is out to steal his girl.

Mysaria confides in Rhaenyra about her past s-xual abuse and opens up about why she is so loyal to The Black Queen. Moved by her words, Rhaenyra embraces her advisor for a kiss.

Now, since this is House of the Dragon we are talking about, things are obviously a little complicated. For starters, Rhaenyra is still married to Daemon, who is also her uncle. On the other hand, Mysaria and Daemon also have a history as she is his ex.

At the end of the day, House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6 makes it official that Rhaenyra is also interested in women. Of course, this came as a surprise to viewers but those who have read George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood were probably not as shocked as the rest.

While the book doesn’t straightforwardly admit that Rhaenyra likes women, there are some instances where it is implied. However, the woman romantically linked to Rhaenyra in the book is not Mysaria, but rather Laena, Daemon’s ex-wife.

Only time will tell if Rhaenyra and Mysaria’s kiss will lead to something and become a prominent storyline in the show or if it was only meant as a one-time thing.

A scene like this is going to be controversial, there is no questioning that. After the sixth episode was released, fans had polar opposite reactions to the kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria.

While there were a few who thought it was unnecessary and added nothing to the plot of the show, others were more than eager to jump on the Rhaenyra-Mysaria bandwagon.

Take a look at how fans reacted to the scene:

Speaking with Variety about the kiss, Mizuno stated,

It’s a really beautiful, tender kiss, and it would be impossible not to feel something as Mysaria in that moment. I don’t think she has had that kind of kiss — maybe ever. And I think sex and sexuality is very complicated for her, given her history as a young woman with her father, and then going into her professional work life. So to have that such a tender, loving and passionate moment would have woken something up.

As for D’Arcy, they admitted that there was nothing calculated about the kiss and that it was just “a desire to connect.”

Mizuno added that she was absolutely sure that viewers “will have their own opinions about it,” and she couldn’t be more right.
