Pokemon GO fans are not amused by the upcoming paid event which will feature the one hot topic gamers are always divided about. Microtransactions and games have rarely gotten along well as pay-to-win strategy only benefits a handful of gamers.
Pokemon GO is all set to launch the Verdant Wonders Special Research event later this year and players will need to pay to participate in the event, which has infuriated fans. Pokemon GO still boasts more than 9 million players and also still gets free for all events, however, the recent surge of paid events hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.
Pokemon Go Players Must Shell Out $7.99 to Obtain Zarude
Pokemon GO will launch the Verdant Wonders Special Research event later this month on the 21st and fans are not one bit excited about it, being a pay-to-participate event. The event features the mythical feature Zarude, which debuted in the movie, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle back in 2021, and several rewards.
Players will need to purchase a ticket for $7.99 to get access and participate in the event, infuriating several players, and once purchased, the game must be played between the 21st and 25th of this month to get access to the Special Research event, after which the event can be completed at any time. The other rewards awaiting players who pay and participate in the event include:
- Six Silver Pinap Berries
- Two Premium Battle Passes
- One Incense, Five Rare Candies
- Several other Dark-type and Grass-type Pokémon encounters
New costumes for Pokemon, and lucky players will also have the chance to capture several rare Pokemon during the event. Unsurprisingly, fans have already taken to social media to share their disappointment.
Fans Share Disappointment and Frustration on Pokemon’s Reddit Forum
Pokemon GO has always had microtransactions and that has never brought down the game’s popularity or the number of players either. Players have been spending on in-app purchases for items and in-game currency ever since the free-to-play game by Nintendo was launched.
However, Pokemon GO players have never been happy about paying for limited-time events, and the recent price tag of $7.99 has been cited as being far too expensive. Fans took to Pokemon’s Reddit Forum to express their disappointment.
With several limited editions of shiny Pokemons on offer for lucky players, one of the fans commented how it would have made some sense if they were made available for even $5. Another fan commented how gamers are exceedingly straying away from purchasing raid passes in the game, and that is one of the reasons for the event tickets being sold at a hefty premium.
Some of those who picked up a Zarude for free three years back had also commented stating they would happily trade it for free if it was possible with those looking to get one. Being a mythical creature, however, it’s not possible to trade it at the moment.
