With the Shared Skies season finally kicking off in Pokemon Go, a plethora of exciting events are taking place in the game. We’ve seen a couple of regional versions of the popular GO Fest, and the last one is right around the corner.
With the highly anticipated debut of Necrozma, gamers are eagerly awaiting the release of the Global version as well. Amid that, Niantic has announced even more events. However, few players believe that Pokemon Go begs for a massive overhaul instead of these small additions and changes.
Pokemon Go Players Demand a Massive Change by Niantic

There’s no doubt that the Pokemon Go community is clearly unhappy over Niantic’s developmental decisions. The Avatar update was an absolute disaster, with the much-anticipated Mega Rayquaza raids proving to be disliked by gamers. Despite being out for years at this point, Pokemon Go still lacks some of the basic features and isn’t detailed like its competitors out there.
After the failure of recent updates, Pokemon Go fans want a major overhaul of the game for its future success.
Over at Reddit, one player has drawn parallels between Pokemon Go and Dragon Quest Walk. If you don’t know about Dragon Quest Walk, it’s a mobile game similar to Pokemon Go that uses location-based gameplay, encouraging players to explore the real world to capture virtual creatures.
It’s one of the most popular mobile games in Japan and clearly outclasses Pokemon Go when it comes to attention to detail.
Unlike Pokemon Go, Dragon Quest Walk knows what its player base demands. The game allows players to set up homes, fill them with decorators, show off trophies, and whatnot.
When it comes to the monsters themselves, they’re incredibly detailed, and the process of catching them is more in-depth. That’s not all; Dragon Quest Walk executes missions and events quite well and entertainingly, unlike Niantic.
Both veterans and newcomers are frustrated with Pokemon Go‘s lack of features. With what other developers in the genre are doing, gamers believe Niantic needs to include such fundamental features, which have become staples in the industry.
It’s just mind-boggling how Niantic is underutilizing a massive franchise like Pokemon.

While players are frustrated with Pokemon Go‘s current state, Niantic is busy thinking about the next decade of the game. Niantic’s Senior Vice President of Pokemon Go, Ed Wu, has revealed that the recent Pokemon Go updates are just a taste of what the studio has in store for the game.
We’re putting a lot of investment into ensuring it’s a great game and has really firm foundations for the next ten years.
Wu asserted that, despite all odds, Pokemon Go is still growing. Some players might label this revelation surprising because a lot of recent reports have suggested that Pokemon Go‘s revenue has been on a constant decline post-pandemic.
However, Wu states that third-party trackers have a partial picture, pointing to the launch of the game’s website as one major revenue generator that isn’t included in revenue reports.
According to Wu, handling the game’s technical issues is still an ongoing process, and Niantic has made significant strides toward making Pokemon Go more scalable in recent years.
Should Niantic bring features from other popular games to Pokemon Go? Let us know in the comments.
