The new year has only just begun, and Niantic, Inc. has already planned and scheduled plenty of fresh content and events for Pokémon GO, which was released more than seven years ago in 2016. From entering 2024 with a grand event to marking the debuts of various characters, the developer and publisher is wasting no time in ensuring the longevity of the game.
Fans of the augmented reality title will be pleased to know that it is set for another event that is right around the corner called the Lustrous Odyssey, and similar to most of the other updates, this one comes with some fun surprises as well.
Rockruff Is Getting Another Form in the Upcoming Pokémon GO Event
Two days ago, on January 2, Niantic, Inc. took to the official Pokémon GO website to announce the beginning of the Lustrous Odyssey event while also explaining exactly what fans can expect from the upcoming chapter in terms of fresh content. The biggest feature that the developer and publisher is highlighting is the arrival of a brand new evolution form for a beloved Pokémon called Rockruff.
Niantic wants players to “Prepare” themselves as the Dusk Form Lycanroc will be making its debut as soon as the next odyssey of the game starts.
According to the official announcement by Niantic, Inc., all Pokémon trainers should “Look towards the setting sun” because the Dusk Form Lycanroc will not exactly be the most common evolution. In fact, the howling evolved form will only be limited to “some” of the base Rockruffs that can be hatched or encountered.
To put things into more context, the Pokémon can currently only turn into two forms: the Midday and Midnight Form Lycanroc, so this is an excellent opportunity to unlock yet another rare evolving variation in GO.
For those gamers who have been looking forward to the Lustrous Odyssey event in Pokémon GO, it is set to begin in just a couple of days at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, and will last until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, with both timings being in the “local time” of the game. In those upcoming four days, players should have plenty of time to hatch or encounter the rare Rockruffs that have the ability to evolve into their Dusk Form Lycanroc variants.
The Wolf Pokémon will only be available for a limited time, so it is best to try and acquire it as soon as possible.
Lustrous Odyssey Will Bring Plenty of Other New Content as Well
Aside from the newly evolved Lycanroc making its debut in the game, the Lustrous Odyssey event will also let Pokémon trainers evolve the Shiny variant of the character into a Shiny Dusk Form Lycanroc, something that the team has never introduced before. There will also be fresh “Timeless Travels Special Research” coming to Pokémon GO, which will mark the second part “of the Seasonal Special Research story” that has been going on for a while.
During this section of the event, players will be given “tasks,” and upon their completion, there will be rewards such as numerous items, plenty of XP and Stardust, and a better chance to come across the rare Rockruff.
GO is also bringing various event bonuses during Lustrous Odyssey, which include more chances of Buddy Pokémon offering “Souvenirs” and presents, as they will be much more present on the game’s map if players feed them Poffins or Berries. It is also worth noting that the Rockruff that hatch “from Eggs received as Adventure Sync rewards” are also eligible for the upcoming rare evolution.
Moreover, a few “Wild” Pokémon will be encountered with a higher frequency, which include Gastly, Spinarak, Teddiursa, Solrock, and Fomantis.
That is not all, because there is a chance of encountering even rarer Pokémon during the event, including Espeon and Umbreon, as well as numerous Shiny variants of all the aforementioned characters.
Similar to other events in GO, Lustrous Odyssey also comes with its own set of Raids, which are categorized as One-Star and Three-Star. The former Raid category consists of Pokémon such as Rhyhorn and Hisuian Sneasel, whereas the latter will contain characters like Lapras and Wyrdeer.
The developer and publisher has more content listed for the event, including special Eggs and bundles, so there is a lot to look forward to.
