Starting a new storyline in a franchise is usually a huge gamble for the creators. In the recent past, a lot of franchises have suffered after the release of new movies or series due to the underwhelming responses from fans. However, it seems like things are finally looking up for Star Wars as the franchise recently announced the release of its upcoming series, The Acolyte.
Star Wars: The Acolyte is all set to be released later this year
Star Wars will certainly go down in history as one of the most profitable entertainment franchises of all time. The epic space opera franchise was first created by George Lucas when he released the first movie of the original trilogy, Star Wars. The film kicked off the epic space opera franchise and multiple sequels, animated series, games, and live-action series have been released since then.
Earlier today, the official page of Star Wars released the poster of Star Wars: The Acolyte and revealed the first trailer of the series will be released tomorrow. The poster shows an image of a lightsaber on the ground with dry blood above and the words, “In an age of light, a darkness rises.”
According to Star Wars, The Acolyte will be set during the High Republic era, almost 100 years before the events of the first movie of the prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. According to Star Wars,
“In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….”
The Acolyte is all set to be released later this year on June 4.
Fans are excited to finally get rid of the Skywalker storyline
Ever since the release of the original trilogy, the Star Wars franchise has always been majorly focused on the Skywalker family. Throughout the years, fans have gotten bored of watching the stories of the same characters over and over again.
Therefore, when the premise for The Acolyte was released, the fans couldn’t keep their excitement and took to X(formerly Twitter) to talk about the series. Many fans pointed out how they were absolutely sick and tired of the Skywalker storyline.
Potential for a great story there.

Glad they’re exploring other eras outside Skywalker saga

I can't wait to see this show with the era it takes place in I'm excited to see what is explored between the two opposing sides. It's good to see more Jedi stuff separate from the trilogies.

Other than The Acolyte, numerous movies and live-action series are also under development which will now drive the franchise away from the storyline of the Skywalker family. Jon Favreau is also working on, The Mandalorian & Grogu which is all set to be released in 2026.
Other than that, an Untitled New Jedi Order film and a Dawn of the Jedi movie are allegedly also in development at the moment.
The Acolyte will be released later this year on June 4 on Disney+.
