Up until Phase 3 the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe was all about the Infinity Stones and the Gauntlet, hence the Infinity Saga.  In the movie Avengers: Infinity War we see the struggles and adventures of Thanos, collecting stones from various parts of the galaxy and universe.

But there has been an Infinity Gauntlet already. In fact, there is not just one Gauntlet but there might be two of them present in the MCU. Similarly, there are major blunders circling around this franchise of superheroes and brilliant villains who shouldn’t have disappeared in just a single movie.

The references to Infinity Gauntlet in MCU

The MCU has given references to the Infinity Gauntlet a few times before we actually noticed its power. Some might even think there are two infinity Guanlets, as in the movie Thor (2011) it was shown in the hall of treasures on Asgard.

Then in Thor: Ragnarok, Hela, played by Cate Blanchett visits Odin’s vault and stands beside a Gauntlet, which later she just simply knocks off, calling it ‘Fake’.  Just imagine the wrath and power she would have held if she actually had her hands on the real Gauntlet.

Also, even before we saw Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, actually fighting with the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and with the Guardian of the Galaxy for invaluable stones that would change the fate of the whole universe.

We saw the mad titan already having his hands on the superior Gauntlet that could hold the power of all the Infinity Stones, in the post-credit scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Then why the chase? And why kill everyone on Nidavellir, besides Eitri?

The major blunder around the Infinity Gauntlet

In the MCU we have questioned not just ourselves but others and sometimes even the creators of the movies as well, about how did that thing actually happen? Let’s say, for instance, the biggest plot hole that we have come across till now is that Scott Lang’s Ant-Man breathing and staying alive when he is actually smaller than the molecules of oxygen itself.

Also, if not that, how can he and others stay in their minimized quantum sizes when they have taken their helmets off in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania

Similarly, in Thor: Ragnarok, no one spoke of why did Odin have a fake infinity gauntlet in his vault. Well, if it was fake why not just put it somewhere out instead of keeping it highly protected, with an army of Asgardians like in the Thor

Coming to the topic now, what exactly was the gauntlet at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron? And what happened to it that Thanos had to travel all the way to Nidavellir and kill the people of that planet to forge a new one?

MCU has been fixing its loopholes part by part in some of the installments that it left in the previous movies. Say for example the disappearance of Red Skull at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger. But now that we have come a long way from the Infinity Saga, guess it’s the right time to talk about this topic.

Exciting everyone with its post-credit sequences and keeping the audience waiting for what is to come next, Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced Thanos taking the charge of Infinity Gauntlet in his own hand.

One can hear him say “Fine! I’ll do it myself” in the post-credit scene. But what exactly did it point toward? Well, if he had the Gauntlet in his possession why did he slay a whole planet?

When asked the writers of ‘Infinity War’ Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, about this plot hole, they have jokingly answered that the one from Age of Ultron was a mere practice gauntlet.

Although, this doesn’t answer much, even Joe Russo seems confused a bit about this whole theory. In an interview with ComicBook.com, he explained that the post-credit scene might be placed on Nidavellir saying,

“I think that it would be connected to Eitri. I think that clearly, he is the one who forged the gauntlet and Thanos had the gauntlet at that point in time. It’s been a while since any of the Asgardians have interacted with Eitri and his people.”

Rumors suggest that we might get to see the gauntlet a few times again. But now that we are entering a new phase in the MCU and have moved ahead of the infinity saga let’s see what exactly awaits us. Will it be more powerful than the gauntlet itself or will it be something unimaginably new?
