Going back to the good old days of the Action Era of the film industry, the audience was introduced to a sci-fi icon known as Predator. The film became an instant hit with the public, creating a sensation for years to come. But somewhere along the way, the appeal and craze for the franchise dwindled until it was on the brink of collapse.

And just when everyone thought that there was no hope for the revival of the series, director Dan Trachtenberg created Prey, instantly revitalizing it in the eyes of the public. Following that success, 20th Century Studios has now greenlit another project in the series titled Badlands. But more than this, fans are imagining Hiroyuki Sanada facing off against a Predator as a Samurai in the feudal era of Japan for a potential film in the series.

While the downfall of a successful franchise takes only one bad film to make the cookie crumble, it also takes only a single good film to bring it back from the dead. The story of the Predator series follows the same path where several mediocre films almost killed the franchise, but 2022’s Prey by filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg breathed new life into the series.

While the first film combined a good story with some of the biggest names in Hollywood of the Action Era like Arnold Schwarzenegger, the latest film in the series was an exceptional execution of the narrative. And with the franchise now back in the public eye, 20th Century Studios has tasked Trachtenberg to start working on the next film in the series, which is titled Badlands (via The Hollywood Reporter).

This upcoming film will not be associated with the 2022 film, and instead, be a completely new story with only the alien killer being the constant attribute from the previous project along with the lead being a female amidst plot details being kept secret. The project has long been in the developmental stage, which will now bring it into production, probably in July 2024.

Despite this news being an amazing development for the franchise, many fans are demanding the studio to make a film in the series where they could see actor Hiroyuki Sanada squaring off against this formidable foe.

A new film in the Predator series seems like a wonderful idea, but fans may have imagined an even greater plot for a film in the series with Hiroyuki Sanada as a Samurai fighting the malevolent extraterrestrial in the old days of Japan.

The plot of the film as imagined by many depicts the John Wick star as either an honored Samurai working under the current Shogun of the country or a wandering Ronin who hears of a village in the countryside that is being terrorized by an unknown entity. When he finds out about the malevolent and bloodthirsty creature as he gets there, he brings it upon himself to slay his foe in the name of the Shogun or from the goodwill of his heart.

Prey, streaming on Hulu.
