The Buckingham Palace reported earlier today that the monarch of the UK, King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer while he was undergoing treatment for benign prostate enlargement. The King reportedly had been undergoing treatment regularly and the cancer was only recently discovered while being treated. While the nature of the cancer was unknown, the palace confirmed that it was not prostate cancer.

The palace’s statement mentioned that the King would be absent from his public duties for some time as he was advised by his doctors. The King was reportedly happy with his medical team and was receiving support from them. The statement also read that King Charles decided to make his diagnosis public to avoid speculation and raise awareness about the disease.

The statement from Buckingham Palace was as follows,

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual…His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

Reports also emerged that the King had informed his sons Prince Harry and Prince William about the diagnosis. The monarch reportedly has the support of his wife Queen Camilla.
