Project Black Budget is an upcoming looter FPS by the makers of PUBG. The latter has been a success, a sensation in the Battle Royale genre ever since its release in 2017. The game was developed by PUBG Corporation, KRAFTON, Inc., Lightspeed & Quantum. The game is still widely played despite the ratings plummeting ever since it went free to play.
The game has been receiving bad reviews from players because of the game facing an influx of cheaters. Recently, KRAFTON, Inc. published its earnings report which can be found here. The report revealed the developer’s plans regarding PUBG as well as new projects which are currently underway as uncovered by Games Horizon. Many details including marketing campaigns, new projects, and additions to game modes were featured in the report.
One such project is being referred to as Project Black Budget. The game is inspired by the likes of Escape from Tarkov as well as Warzone 2’s DMZ mode and was announced back in 2022. This was done after the studio scrapped PUBG 2 which was a part of its initial plans.
Project Black Budget has now been renamed to PUBG Black Budget. There are also updates regarding the game’s release timeline. The window that was being targeted by the studio for the game’s release has been narrowed down.
PUBG Black Budget: Everything We Know From Krafton, Inc.’s Earnings Report
The earning report which was also linked above shares a lot of details regarding KRAFTON, Inc.’s strategy. This includes the dev’s work and notable feature additions on the PC/Console as well as Mobile. Page number 8, however, is perhaps the most notable description of the company’s shift in strategy. The page is titled, “Scale Up the Creative”. The subtitle of the page reads:
Scale-Up the Future Growth Potential with Transition from a Global Game Company into a Global Publisher
While the statement is fairly self-explanatory, the first column offers a glimpse of the titles that are currently in the pipeline for the studio. The first one is Project Black Budget which also has a tentative cover art featuring neon blue font.
Furthermore, the game is confirmed to be in development by PUBG studios. The target launch window for the game has been further clarified to be the second half of the year 2024, or 2H24. It was initially announced that it would be launching somewhere between 2024 and 2025. The game’s genre when the project was revealed in 2022, was announced to be PvPvE looter shooter.
The poster of the game which is included beside the project’s details, is also interesting when observed carefully. After the announcement, the game was mentioned once again in the company’s financial report which was released in February 2023. In the report, the game was referred to by the studio as ” the extraction shooter genre based on our PUBG production and service experience”.
While there aren’t a lot of details available regarding the game’s release such as the platforms on which the game will be available, game modes, game format, etc. Some more details will most likely be released as we venture towards 2024.
Other Titles Mentioned in Krafton, Inc’s Earnings Report Apart From Project Black Budget
KRAFTON, Inc. has been responsible for Callisto Protocol, Dead Space’s spiritual successor. The game was not particularly well-received by reviewers and users alike. But the developer seems to be working on new titles. One of them is also Dark and Darker mobile. The game is described as a Mobile Extraction RPG which is being developed by Bluehole studio.
Other titles in the earnings report include Inzoi which is being marketed as a Life Simulation Game being developed by KRAFTON, Inc. The game is targeting a Global Launch in the second half of 2024.
Other titles are being developed by other studios like The Next Subnautica being developed by Unknown Worlds and Project Gold Rush by Vector North. All in all, the company is expected to launch more than 32 games between 2024 and 2026.
