Ever since Palworld went into its early access phase a few days ago on January 18, it took the gaming world by storm and emerged as a much-needed light full of hope for Xbox players. Pocketpair’s unconventional take on the action-adventure survival genre paid off in unimaginable ways, especially due to the fact that the concept felt a little too familiar to a long-running iconic franchise.
The game is being described all across the Internet as “Pokémon with guns,” and considering how it hasn’t even been a whole week since its release, its rapid climb on the Steam charts is extremely impressive.
Nothing Is Standing in the Way of Palworld’s Ultimate Triumph Except PUBG
To put the unexpected rise of Palworld into more perspective, despite still being in early access without a full release currently, Pocketpair’s title has already crossed beloved video games like the highly anticipated sequel Counter-Strike 2 on the Steam charts. That means that in less than a week, it has performed outstandingly and become the second most-played game ever on Valve’s massive gaming platform.
There’s only one thing left standing in the way of its complete triumph and first place: PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS.
At the quick rate at which Palworld has climbed the Steam charts, it does not seem to be long before Pocketpair’s game defeats PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS to secure the top place. Of course, it is not going to be easy since the latter has an incredibly huge player base that keeps growing with each passing day, but it is yet to be seen if it can keep the crown against Pokémon literally wielding firearms.
The game was not even on any major radars before it entered its early access phase, so its immense success is actually quite surprising, which is something maybe even the developer and publisher could not have imagined.
According to the statistics on SteamDB, Palworld reached an all-time peak of a whopping 1,864,421 players in a 24-hour window on January 23, which gave it an amazing lead over Counter-Strike 2. What makes this feat even more astonishing is that the latter was actually developed and published by Valve itself, the parent company that created Steam. So, beating it on its own platform is an extraordinary milestone for a relatively smaller developer and publisher like Pocketpair.
PUBG Is Still Leagues Ahead of Palworld, But That Could Change Soon
Palworld still has plenty of miles to cover before it reaches the level of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS because the all-time peak record set by the latter is leagues ahead of any other video game on Steam. KRAFTON, Inc.’s title managed to achieve what no other developer or publisher has been able to do: a crazy 3,257,248 concurrent players.
To be fair, this was done at a time when the gaming industry was going through a massive battle royale trend, and considering how the craze for the genre has relatively slowed down a little, Pocketpair seems to have a chance to get to the very top of the charts.
Of course, the numbers that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS pulled back in the day are definitely not easy to get to, but it is obvious that Palworld has the potential to reach an even higher concurrent peak number of players. This is due to the fact that Pocketpair’s action-adventure survival title just passed seven million sales in just five days, which is absolutely outstanding.
The developer and publisher has stated that the game will remain in its early access phase for a year, so when it does hit full release, things might become even better for it.
