Actor Eddie Murphy is one of the most prominent and influential figures in the entertainment industry. Thanks to his versatile performances in movies like 48 Hrs, Trading Places, and Beverly Hills Cop, he became a worldwide sensation. Despite several setbacks, Murphy managed to return to the big screen with a bang.
In a past interview, Murphy recalled the time iconic director Quentin Tarantino approached him to create a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie. Around this time there were rumors that Tarantino also offered Murphy a role in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds, however, that never happened despite Murphy saying Tarantino is the good kind of “crazy.”
Quentin Tarantino was keen on working with Eddie Murphy
Throughout the late 2000s, there were several rumors about director Quentin Tarantino trying to get actor Eddie Murphy in his 2009 movie, Inglourious Basterds. Around that time, Tarantino was also interested in creating a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie with Murphy. In 2005, Murphy told Joblo (via Irish Examiner),
“Quentin is insane but good insane. He came to me with an idea for another Cop, and we’ve been talking about that. If it comes off, great – he’s one crazy guy worth working with.”
Unfortunately, the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie never happened and Murphy didn’t appear in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds either.
Paramount Pictures has been trying hard to create a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie film with Eddie Murphy
Earlier this year, Murphy gave his fans an update on the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, explaining that they have been trying to create it for many years. The actor told Collider,
“We tried for years and years, maybe 10, 12 years, and I must have read five or six different scripts, and it was never right. The studio was like, ‘Let’s go. Here it is.’ It was like, ‘It’s just not it.’ Jerry Bruckheimer got back in there, and he knows his s**t, and he put it together.”
It has been revealed that Netflix is all set to distribute this fourth film. The first three films in the franchise have grossed a total of $712 million at the worldwide box office, making it one of the biggest comedy franchises. It might be possible that fans never get to see Murphy working with Tarantino as the director has announced his next film, 2024’s The Movie Critic, will be his last film as a director.
