Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are two of the most sought-after leading men in Hollywood, having remained in the spotlight constantly since gaining star status in the 90s. Whenever their names are attached to a project, more often than not, moviegoers queue up to buy tickets irrespective of the storyline.
As such, bringing the two giants together to share a screen seems like a pretty easy decision for studios chasing big numbers at the box office. Yet, such a collaboration has only happened once. Interestingly, Quentin Tarantino may now reunite the pair in what is being billed as his last film.
Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt Haven’t Worked Together in the Last Three Decades
Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise appeared in gothic horror Interview with the Vampire in 1994. The former played Spanish lord Louis, while the latter showed his vampire magic by assuming the role of Lestat. The film was a financial success, grossing $223.7 million at the box office. It was also received well by critics and earned a couple of Oscar nominations.
However, in several interviews (via Far Out Magazine) afterward, Pitt suggested he didn’t have the best of times while working on the film. In the next three decades, the pair didn’t cross paths on the big screen.
In the mid-2010s, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski attempted to do the impossible when he was on the road to make Ford v Ferrari – titled Go Like Hell at the time.
During a discussion in a Comic-Con at Home panel (via Collider), Kosinki revealed:
“I wouldn’t say we got close to production, but I got to the point where I had Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt at a table read, reading the script together.”
However, due to budget issues, the project didn’t get the green light. Soon after, it was revived with Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the drivers’ seats.
Meanwhile, a recent report about Quentin Tarantino’s ambitious project has revived fans’ hopes of seeing Pitt and Cruise together once again.
Quentin Tarantino Might Reunite Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt
According to The Insneider (via ComingSoon), Cruise is in talks to join the cast of Tarantino’s final film, The Movie Critic.
The Mission: Impossible star, who’s expected to be busy most of the year with the eighth installment of his iconic franchise, is thought to be rearranging his schedule to make room for The Movie Critic.
Pitt has also been heavily linked with the project, which is being backed by Sony Pictures. The Troy star is expected to take on the lead role in a film based on a guy who used to write movie reviews for a p-rno rag.
The 60-year-old has worked in front of Tarantino’s camera previously in Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
