Ready Player One was a great hit with the movie adaptation, but the book was a worldwide bestseller that still holds up. Ernest Cline wrote it, and a sequel to the book has already been launched, which will also be adapted for film.
The author of Ready Player One will materialize the idea of the book in a metaverse experience called OPEN. This new project has the support of many brands and has already been developed with Unreal Engine 5 for PC and the current generation of platforms.
OPEN Will Finally be the Definitive Ready Player One Experience that the Book Describes
Ready Player One was a great deal when it was released back in 2018, with more than $600 million in the box office. There is even a new book that continues the journey of the protagonist after winning the rights to the company. The author of these books, Ernest Cline, is ready to launch a new kind of metaverse with the idea of the book; this game is called OPEN.
This new idea will be some kind of web experience that will bring an enormous number of IPs together in a metaverse, like Ready Player One.
OPEN has its own website, where you can see the description of the project. It says: “A MULTI-BIOME, MULTI-IP, MULTI-MODE BATTLE ROYALE COMPETITION, IN DEVELOPMENT FOR PC AND NEXT-GEN PLATFORMS.” OPEN, which self-describes as AAA experience with Web3 technology and Unreal Engine 5, will be a Battle Royale. Brands like Warner-Discovery are already part of the project. Warner Bros. distributed the film adaptation of Ready Player One.
This Could be a Game-Changer
The people behind the project aside from Ernest Cline are Dan Farah, producer of the movie adaptation, and Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald, who are part of Futureverse. They will launch Readyverse with multiple projects regarding this IP.
All of this will be an immersive experience. The first of these projects will launch in January 2025. Open and the other projects within the Readyverse are aiming to change gaming as a whole.
In Ready Player One, the protagonist is Wade Watts, a teenager who dreams of winning the ultimate quest inside the OASIS. The virtual world is where all IP characters join. There is an evil corporation that is also looking for this ultimate quest to gain full control of the company behind the OASIS. This movie makes the appearance of dozens of pop culture characters possible in the same space.
