Channing Tatum has enjoyed a super successful acting career over the last few years. Taking Hollywood by storm with his roles in hit movies, the hunky actor has gathered a massive fanbase and fortune. However, there’s still one regret that he holds – his failure to land a certain Marvel role.
Traumatized by his failure to play the X-Men character Gambit, Channing Tatum discussed his heartbreak. Reportedly set to have his solo movie in 2016, the actor lost the role as production never came to fruition. And since then, Tatum’s trauma has stopped him from watching any other MCU films.

Channing Tatum Failed to Land The Role of Gambit
Who doesn’t want to be a part of Marvel movies, especially after the production house has successfully launched so many actors to their fame? Witnessing the grandeur of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even Channing Tatum wished to be a part of the franchise. And in 2016, the actor almost had an opportunity to be part of Marvel.
The hunky actor and his longtime producer partner Reid Carolin spent four years developing Gambit, a raunchy stand-alone movie based on the X-Men mutant. The superhero project resembled the tone of Deadpool and would therefore have been R-rated. Speaking with Variety, Tatum shared,
“The studio really didn’t want us to direct it. They wanted anybody but us…They would call [Gambit] ‘flamboyant’ in his description. I wouldn’t — he was just the coolest person. He could pull anything off…We wanted to make a romantic comedy superhero movie. We had cast the film. We’d opened up a production office.”
But unfortunately, in the end, after Disney merged with Fox, Gambit became a casualty of the corporate takeover in 2019.
Channing Tatum is Traumatized to Watch MCU Films
The actor lost the opportunity to work on his Marvel project and play the role of the titular X-Men character. Stuck in between the drama of corporate takeovers between Fox and Disney, Tatum’s project eventually fell apart. Channing Tatum was completely devastated by his loss of the Marvel project and swore one thing.
“Once ‘Gambit’ went away, I was so traumatized. I shut off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.”
Tatum explained how his happiness was soon turned into sadness when the project got shelved. He experienced a trauma so bad that he refrained from watching any further Marvel movies. Although he has no rage against the MCU, he fails to watch the projects. But somewhere or the other, Tatum still hopes for Disney to consider his idea.
“I wish they would reconsider because it’s a pretty great project. I would love to play Gambit. I don’t think we should direct it. I think that was hubris on our part.”
Instead of giving up on the hope of playing this character in the MCU, Channing Tatum still hopes for Disney to offer him a chance to make his big debut in Marvel.
