The fans witnessed the development of Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller transforming from a grumpy man to a dad, and fans were relieved when he accepted Ellie as his daughter at the end of season 1. And fans were enjoying their warm bond, but it looks fans can not enjoy it for long as Pedro Pascal will be making an exit from the second season of the show because Joel Miller dies at the beginning of the second game.

In an interview with Esquire, The Equalizer 2 actor shared how he would like the showrunners to make the show follow the storyline of the game.

Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us

It would be sensible for the showrunners to follow the original storyline because video game fans tend to find it quite annoying for showrunners to deviate from the original story, while they would appreciate it if the different story sticks to them. However, all hell would break loose, if the story will not stick to the viewers. Since the storyline of the game was quite emotional, it would be a good idea to follow the plot without taking any risks.
