Red Dead Redemption 2 is without a doubt the best western open-world game out there. Rockstar Games sure knows how to design highly detailed open-world experiences. From character details to details in the game’s very well-designed open world that changes with time, it has everything. To top it all, this game had an incredible story full of excellent performances.
But it was missing one thing that many gamers wanted: a hardcore mode. Of course, a realistic Western open-world game needs a hardcore mode that actually challenges the player. Challenge them not just in the story but when they are exploring the open world. While Red Dead Redemption 2 does not have this feature by default, someone has decided to add it to this game in an interesting way.
It’s now possible to activate hardcore mode in Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 has a story worth talking about; in fact, it’s so good that fans are talking about it to this day. Its characters were very detailed, and the actors playing those characters left such a mark on them that they made these characters instant classics.
Now that this game is six years old, fans are still waiting for a next-gen update for it. Rockstar Games, on the other hand, is hard at work on developing GTA 6. While other games are getting content and visual updates from their developers, Rockstar Games has only released some new content for Red Dead Online. Single-player fans have not been very lucky in this case.
But fret not cowboys; a very dedicated fan who goes by the name javc13 has given this game a hardcore mode. And no, they have not done this by releasing a mod or anything; they have simply made a checklist that would make the game significantly harder, pushing it towards being more challenging.
The checklist goes as follows:
- Don’t use the mini-map, and limit as much as possible the use of the map.
- Always go for gold medals.
- No aim assist, no reticle, and no ammo count in the HUD
- Do not use Dead Eye mode.
- Limit health items as much as possible.
- Don’t upgrade your weapons to make them better.
- Don’t use custom bullets.
- Don’t craft new satchels.
- Don’t get an elite horse.
- Try to buy the least amount of ammo possible.
- Donate 50+% of your earnings to the camp box.
- No fast travel
- Keep Arthur well-fed.
- Sleep regularly
- Instead of buying food, go and hunt.
This is a hefty list indeed, and no doubt if someone decides to follow this list, they will be struggling through this game without a doubt. But all these things would work best if players were exploring the game’s world.
The American Wild West is a treacherous place to be, and this game, along with all the above-mentioned changes, would make it so in the game too.
Would Rockstar games add a hardcore mode to GTA 6?
While Rockstar Games has missed this chance for most of the games for so long, it’s never too late to change. In survival or hardcore mode, they would only be giving their upcoming success a lot of replayability.
While it’s a great thought, there’s still time to decide for Rockstar Games, as GTA 6 does not even have a launch date as of yet.
