Redfall had a rough fall during its launch earlier in May of this year. With an underwhelming launch and the game recently hitting single-digit player counts, there was little hope that the game would redeem itself. However, a recent 60 FPS patch has made the game a bit more enjoyable. Thanks to this update, both Xbox Series S and Series X players can play the game at a smoother framerate. This update includes new controller settings along with significant gameplay changes.

This patch also fixes notable resolution issues (including stability problems) faced by PC players. The update is aimed at fixing existing bugs and glitches, bringing in quality-of-life upgrades, and improving accessibility and gameplay experiences.

Update 2’, a term coined by Bethesda, enables Performance Mode on Xbox Series S. This lets the game run at 60 FPS, unlike the default 30 FPS that players have been used to. Along with this, there are quite a few noticeable updates to the game’s overall performance and gameplay experience. According to the website,

You can read about the patch notes in detail here. The patch includes performance and stability fixes, UI changes, accessibility improvements, and gameplay changes. This includes massive combat, multiplayer, and environment upgrades. Players can expect to play the game in a new light (or lack thereof), given how ‘stealth’ is a better option now and AI is much improved.

A lot of complaints around the user experience and interface for the game hopefully won’t resurface, as the patch fixed most of these issues, including how players interact with their environment and how the loot system and gun combat work.

Arkane recommends:

For fast paced multiplayer FPS fans – Check out Medium, High, or Linear Input Response Presets as they tend to feel faster and more responsive overall.

For slower single player FPS fans – Check out Default, Low, or Medium Input Response Presets as the slower response curves tend to feel like you have a little more precision over your aim.

Moreover, controller settings, especially aim-assist and dead zone tuning, have been significantly improved.

How Long Until Redfall Fixes Its Launch Disaster?

The future of Redfall seems bright, as developers promise continuous support.

While there is no set roadmap for Bethesda to fix the game, enough apologies from the team and Phil Spencer had the community believing that the game would eventually find the attention and love it deserves. At launch, the gaming community figured out that the game had a terrible development cycle, resulting in a half-baked game from developers of games like Dishonored and Deathloop.

There was no question about Xbox and Arkane Studios’ reputation at that point. However, given the nature of modern triple-A titles, many players expect things not to go as planned, and Redfall certainly falls in the category of games that need their time to be polished and ready for a concrete player base. In the past, titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky have made a name for themselves going by this logic, and Redfall can follow in those footsteps.

In an interview with Bethesda’s marketing head, Pete Hines, we learned that Redfall won’t be abandoned by its developers in the near future. The team expects new players to join in and keep looking forward to future updates. For now, we can only count on such promises and keep our fingers crossed. Considering Microsoft’s investment in all things Bethesda, there might just be hope for a better future for Redfall.

According to Pete Hines,

We are the same company that has had launches that didn’t go the way we wanted, and we don’t quit or abandon stuff just because it didn’t start right. The Elder Scrolls Online’s PC launch was not flawless, but we stuck with it. Now it’s like this insanely popular multiplatform. It’s the same with Fallout 76. Redfall is no different for us.
