James Gunn’s announcement of a new DCU slate was the final nail in the coffin for the Snyderverse. Fans of Zack Snyder’s DC films had once hoped that they would get a continuation of his universe after Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released on HBO Max. However, that hasn’t happened as of yet. As such, many fans of the Snyderverse are lamenting about the projects they couldn’t see directed by Snyder. One such project was an alleged Green Lantern film that was rumored to be helmed by the director. As a result, his fanatics are still angry at Gunn for decimating the Snyderverse.

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League (ZSJL), there aren’t any Green Lanterns. However, Wayne T. Carr was apparently going to play the intergalactic cop hero in the film. On the anniversary of the movie’s release, the actor released a photo of himself in the Green Lantern costume. He tweeted that he wanted sequels to Snyder’s Justice League film. This isn’t the first time the presence of a Green Lantern was confirmed in the film. In 2021’s Justice Con, Zack Snyder himself revealed that he had filmed a Green Lantern scene with Carr in his driveway.

As per the director:

“Remember when were supposed to be getting a Green Lantern movie involving Zack Snyder? Those were the days.”

Back then, Green Lantern’s appearance was probably omitted from ZSJL because there was already a series in development at HBO Max and WB probably wanted to make sure that general audiences weren’t confused. After all, Zack Snyder’s final DC film was supposed to be a way for him to get closure on the messy Justice League project that he had to leave due to a family tragedy. It wasn’t a door that would lead to more DC projects. However, his fans to this day continue to advocate for a Lantern project helmed by him.

As of now, the HBO Max Green Lantern series has been scrapped and James Gunn is now developing a Lantern series that will be in the vein of True Detective. Fans of Snyder still aren’t convinced of Gunn’s vision and want their favorite director to come back and take control of DC. There have been petitions to let Netflix continue the Snyderverse with more movies. However, the chances of that realistically happening are slim. Yet, it remains to be seen what happens next especially since Snyder has released a cryptic video referencing the DC villain Darkseid.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is streaming on HBO Max.
