It looks like the ghosts from Gwyneth Paltrow’s past are coming back to haunt her.
The Academy Award-winning actress has gotten embroiled in a grave legal mess with a crisp new civil lawsuit on her hands linked to a ski accident from years ago. Not only is Paltrow being sued for a hefty chunk of money for pulling a hit-and-run at a ski resort but she is also required to take the stand for the same.
Meanwhile, the Iron Man actress is countersuing for a million dollars, maintaining that it was in fact the plaintiff who skied into her and not the other way around.
Gwyneth Paltrow Faces A Civil Lawsuit for A Ski Hit-And-Run Case
A retired optometrist named Terry Sanderson is suing Gwyneth Paltrow for $300,000 in relation to a Utah ski accident that took place back in 2016 at Deer Valley Resort. A complaint that was filed by Sanderson a couple of years ago in 2019 accused Paltrow, 50, of skiing away after crashing into him, “leaving [him] stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured.”
The complaint further stated that a ski instructor from the resort “who had been training Ms. Paltrow,” but hadn’t witnessed the accident, “skied over” to find a wounded Sanderson, only to leave him there and “falsely accuse” him of being the one responsible for the crash later. However, both the resort and instructor were later extricated from the lawsuit after a judge dismissed Sanderson’s initial claim of “hit-and-run.”
The Goop founder is also accused of having caused Sanderson a “permanent traumatic brain injury” along with “4 broken ribs” as well as severe emotional suffering which ultimately led to “loss of enjoyment of life.”
But Paltrow certainly doesn’t seem to be backing down from the fight either.
Gwyneth Paltrow is Countersuing for $1 Million
The Emma star has consistently maintained that it was Sanderson who thrashed into her during the accident. She also claimed that she didn’t flee from the scene and lingered around for a good amount of time, leaving only when the Deer Valley Resort ski instructor, Eric Christiansen, gave her the green light to do so.
Additionally, Paltrow also mentioned that 76-year-old Sanderson, at first, had admitted to having a hazy recollection of the whole incident. However, one of the retired doctor’s attorneys, Robert B. Sykes, stated that Paltrow’s representatives didn’t completely “deny the collision” either.
The Great Expectations star has filed a countersuit and has demanded a colossal sum of $1 million in symbolic damages excluding the cover charge for her attorney.
Paltrow’s trial is set to take place on March 21, 2023.
