Jonathan Glazer’s acceptance speech after winning the Academy Award for Best International Film polarized his viewers in the most direct and brutal ways. He made the film to show the true extent of dehumanization and how it perfectly signifies the events of the world right now.
The speech made many extremely happy, and many infuriated. While the former of the two categories pat Glazer on the back for speaking up, the latter took a different approach. An open letter was written, condemning the filmmaker for what he said during his speech.
The number of signatures that the letter has is quite interesting, as fans got furious and hungry for blood.
Open Letter Against Jonathan Glazer Has A Concerning Amount of Signatures
On Monday, an open letter was released for the public to see surround what the director of The Zone of Interest said. A huge number of Jewish celebrities, actors, directors, producers, and more, have signed on the letter which criticizes Jonathan Glazer and the speech that he made at the Oscars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the letter had over 450 signatures yesterday itself, which is a huge number on its own.
In less than a day, after this number was released, the letter had an additional 500 signatures, bringing the total to over 950 signatures. In the letter, they played on the words said by the filmmaker during his winner’s speech, stating that they did not believe in what he had said.
“We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination,”
They did not seem to like his comparing an “Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination”, to the Holocaust performed by the Nazis, also highlighting other aspects from the statement.
Fans Are Out For Jonathon Glazer’s Blood
After the news of these additional signatures hit the internet, fans were furious. Many celebrities have kept their thoughts on the Israel-Palestine conflict private as many who have spoken up have gotten backlash from one side or the other. Regardless, the public has generally been curious about the alliances of public figures.
After the update on the open letter was announced, many wanted the celebrities to be boycotted. Hungry for the truth about these 950 celebrities, they want to know the true colors of Hollywood. Some pointed out how they are ending their own careers by signing the document.
