Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 7 SPOILER Breakdown

At the beginning of the episode, we see Summer doing “chores” for Rick, such as cleaning up his messes and caring for his extraterrestrial pets. After Summer demands payment, Rick grants it in the form of an “attribute” slider that Summer wants to use to impress the players on her frolf team.

At first, Summer uses the slider to get buff and impress the players in that way, but eventually, she begins to use it to increase her charisma and artificially inflate her skills in social situations. Wanting to use it for his own purposes, Morty steals the slider from Summer, but not before overloading her intelligence.

A brawl ensues between smart Summer and buff Morty before the duo falls into the pool. This causes the slider to malfunction, and Morty comes out merged into Summer as a mutant appendage out of her abdomen, a la Kuato from Total Recall.

After Rick refuses to unmerge them, Summer receives a targeted ad to a nightclub for those with Kuatos. Charmed by an attractive man with a Kuato, Summer is soon kidnapped into a human trafficking scheme. After Morty is surgically removed, Summer is able to escape her captors and frees another woman who had been separated from the Kuato.

Summer sets out on a quest to rescue Morty, trying to find the “Taken house.” Meanwhile, Rick beats up a bunch of people who encountered Summer along her journey, hoping to find his grandchildren. Eventually, Summer and Rick unite, and Summer uses the psychic link she now has with Kuato Morty to find the auction house where he is being sold to a rich aristocrat who wants to have a Kuato.

At the auction house, Rick and Summer go on a manhunt, fighting henchmen until they chase the leader of the human trafficking ring onto a boat. During the skirmishes, Rick reveals that he treats Summer differently than he does Morty because he actually respects her.

On the boat, it is revealed that the evil mastermind is not the leader, but the Kuato of his Kuato of his Kuato. Kuato Morty and the evil mastermind get into a fight, but Rick uses his tech to take over the mastermind’s spider vehicle and drown him.

Back on Earth, Morty uses the spider vehicle to win at frolf. One of the jocks Summer had been trying to charm earlier attempts to flirt with her, but she rejects him, instead opting for the woman she saved from the human trafficking ring.

In a post-credits scene, the rich would-be buyer of Kuato Morty and his friends make a bunch of 69 jokes.

For those hoping for a return to more simple Rick and Morty adventures, this latest episode may satisfy. However, it feels enormously one-note, with an interesting premise that feels squandered on humor that doesn’t really go anywhere. Hopefully, future entries will provide much more entertaining adventures.

Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim every Sunday at 11pm ET/PT.
