The public opinion often sticks out in these cases so it can create a ruckus even when it is least expected. Scott once took the decision of replacing Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer in All the Money in the World and it was a decision he stood by no matter what. However, interestingly enough, he had the support of none other than Christian Bale with him.

Christian Bale Stood by Ridley Scott’s Side

Christian Bale has always been one to make movies selective to his career, making his filmography one that is highly respected and appreciated. While talking with The Guardian, the actor was asked about how he felt seeing Kevin Spacey being replaced with Christopher Plummer in All the Money in the World.

“Ridley’s a very smart man, a friend of mine. I imagine he’s made exactly the right choice.” He added. “I don’t know if the allegations were so egregious that it was a moral choice of Ridley’s or if it was a purely business choice.”

The actor immediately jumped to Ridley Scott’s support, stating that his discretion is something he takes into account as he considers the director a friend and a smart person. He even went so far as to say that Scott’s decision must have been right no matter what the allegations state. However, he did add that he was unaware of what exactly made the director replace Spacey. Whether it was purely business or his own personal morals that made him do so, Bale considers it to be the right step.

Why was Kevin Spacey Replaced?

Kevin Spacey was much prepared to star in Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World until the director was forced to replace him at the very last moment. The budget of the movie had been merely $40 Million, however, hiring Christopher Plummer and doing the reshoots added another $10 Million to it as well. Explaining why he did so, Ridley Scott talked to Entertainment Weekly.

“I sat and thought about it and realised, we cannot. You can’t tolerate any kind of behaviour like that,” he stated. “And it will affect the film. We cannot let one person’s action affect the good work of all these other people. It’s that simple.”

Spacey was accused of s*xual misconduct and it did not take any extra thought for Scott to know that the actor had to be replaced, no matter the cost. He had to save his movie before the fans came to his door and he knew his decision was not the wrong one either.
