The information comes from well known industry insider, The Snitch, who states that he has some major news on the upcoming game Rise of the Ronin, from Team Ninja. This is the studio who are probably best known for Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive and the most recent title, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Although we haven’t heard from Developers since the reveal on 13th September 2022, according to the insider the release date is scheduled for Q1 in 2024. From that we can discern that this could be anytime between January and March 2024 but given that the game has been in development for the last eight years, it’s good news that we may have a release date to look forward to!

Further information was given in that the game itself is likened to a mix of Ghost of Tsushima (no surprises there), Dark Souls and Assassin’s Creed with various side quests which reminds of the Ubisoft title. No doubt there will be all the various collectibles along the way, which will see many hours added to the players journey.

What we also have from the insider information is further detail  on skill and technique trees, difficulty options and maybe quite surprisingly, romance options. We say surprisingly as this was not one of the features that formed part of the Ninja Gaiden titles and certainly there was nothing in the trailer released which gave anything to allude to this.

This all being said, we should state that nothing as of yet is confirmed but at the time of writing, there has been no comment from Sony or Team Ninja to advise otherwise.

Rise of the Ronin: What you need to know

Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin could be expected to release early 2024

Team Ninja started developing Rise of the Ronin back in 2015 and stated that, like the Ronin, it has progressed slowly and freely. No doubt comparisons will be drawn with the 2020 Sucker Punch Productions title Ghost of Tsushima, as the game is a combat focused open-world game with the character traversing the map either on foot or by horseback.

Rise of the Ronin is set in the late 19th Century and Japan is struggling with the spread of disease and oppressive rule. The country is experiencing influence from the Western World for the first time, while the country is in state of civil war between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.

And it is here amidst the chaos that you take on the character of the Ronin, the master less warrior.

A spokesperson for Team Ninja had the following to say;

“By harnessing all the skills and knowledge we’ve gained over the years we really wanted to take things to the next level by attempting to thoroughly portray the most critical revolution in the history of Japan including the darkest and ugliest chapters that many will shy away from. This is undoubtedly the most ambitious and challenging project for Team Ninja Studio to date. Yet we will allow our experience in creating samurai and ninja action games to guide us through this journey.”
