While on the set, Downey Jr. reportedly made one rather unusual demand that added a touch of abnormality to the filmmaking process.

This revelation comes from industry insider Joanna Robinson, who shared intriguing insights during her appearance on The Ringer’s The Watch podcast.

One striking revelation from Robinson’s visit to the Endgame set while working for Vanity Fair in 2017 was the chilling atmosphere. She disclosed that the studio was maintained at a frigid temperature, all because of Downey Jr.’s preference. She said,

“The vibe is interesting… It’s – this isn’t in the book, so it’s exclusive to The Watch – it’s ice cold in the studio because that’s how Robert Downey Jr. likes it.”

Furthermore, the actor had another distinctive privilege as his very own trailer within the studio, separate from the rest of the cast. She explained,

“There’s the little ocean of trailers outside of the studio, but then Downey has his own trailer inside the studio.”

This exceptional treatment of the 58-year-old undoubtedly added an enigmatic touch to the making of Avengers: Endgame.

During the same podcast, Robinson revealed that, between takes, the cast members congregated in one spot, fostering a sense of togetherness.

Original Avengers like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner could be seen playing games and conversing. She stated,

“Between takes, everyone hangs out in one spot. So you can just see Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Renner are all sort of sitting around, playing games, and talking to each other. And then slightly off were Sean Gunn and Karen Gillan because they weren’t OG Avengers… They were in their little duo, but they’re in that movie.”

However, in the midst of this, Downey Jr. seemed to inhabit a world of his own, while stars like Johansson, Evans, and Hemsworth bonded over their shared MCU journey. Robinson recalled,

“And then Downey is off in his world. And that’s sort of the between-take vibe. But it very much looked to me like these were the graduating seniors, like ScarJo and Chris Evans and Hemsworth, they just have been through it for a while, they’ve just been through it for a while, they’ve known each other forever.”

Despite the division in facilities, these original Avengers found unity, engaging in games, conversations, and mutual support.

Downey’s unique treatment acted as a hidden ingredient, enhancing the bond that made Avengers: Endgame a timeless cinematic marvel in the MCU’s storied history.
