Robert Downey Jr. is known worldwide as the actor who plays Iron Man in the MCU. In addition to that, he has been in some of the most acclaimed and memorable films. No one can forget his impeccable turn as Charlie Chaplin in 1992’s Chaplin. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Zodiac also feature Downey’s most impressive performances.
The latter had him starring alongside Mark Ruffalo, who would later become members of the Avengers. However, it seems they already formed a great bond from that film onwards, and Downey Jr. even landed Ruffalo in trouble due to his mischievous antics.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Antics Hilariously Led To a Torturous Scenario For Mark Ruffalo
Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo are most popularly known for their MCU roles as Iron Man and Hulk, and they have had an entertaining arc together throughout the films. They are great friends in real life, and this close bond seems to have stemmed way before their time as members of the Avengers.
They worked together for the first time in David Fincher’s Zodiac in 2007. Downey Jr. is known for his humorous charm and mischievous quality. In a recent Variety’s Actors on Actors episode where he appeared alongside Ruffalo, Downey Jr recalled an anecdote where his one hilarious behavior led to Ruffalo starting a scene all over again after doing it umpteen number of times. He said,
“We’re shooting a scene in a mailroom and we’ve done it about 60 times and Mark’s been working a bunch of days in a row. I’m feeling a bit mischievous and he’s like ‘We got it right?’ and I was like yeah this is just ridiculous. And then Fincher says ‘Do we got it?’
He goes ‘Downey come here I want the scene to start Because I want it to work like a oner.’ You want to work it like a oner? No you don’t have it and he goes ‘Downey says we don’t have it so Mark you can go to lunch we’ll scrap all those takes and we’ll start over again.”
In addition to being an extremely versatile actor, Downey Jr. always manages to insert some mischief and fun to a set. He seems like the kind person who makes acting fun and exciting. Every actor he has ever worked with has nothing but only kind words to say about him, and Ruffalo also feels the same way about Downey Jr.
Kevin Feige says Robert Downey Jr. Will Not Return as Iron Man
Ever since his character’s death in Avengers: Endgame, fans have believed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man would return in some form in a future MCU film. However, Kevin Feige has now kept that rumor to rest, saying that he and Marvel want to keep the integrity of the character’s death intact, and reviving him unnecessarily will ruin its meaning. He told Vanity Fair,
“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
One can interpret this in two ways: Feige might be pulling an Andrew Garfield here, or he is really speaking the truth. Only time will tell whether Feige keeps his word on he matter.
