Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker met on the set of the 1984 film, Firstborn. They fell for each other while working on the film and started dating and moved in within just eight weeks of that. They dated for years before separating in 1991 due to the Dolittle star’s substance addiction issues.
But that doesn’t mean their relationship was almost on the verge of breaking up. The couple had a great and fun relationship. According to InStyle, the Footloose actress admitted that she and the Sherlock Holmes star used to throw water balloons at their neighbors while they stayed together in L.A.
Parker further said that their neighbors also joined them as they retaliated by “spraying [them] with a garden hose.” The couple was among some of the hot sensations of Hollywood at the time. And not just fans, but the Tropic Thunder star’s father also approved of their relationship. He was reportedly happy about it and believed that The Family Stone star’s company was good for his son.
However, their relationship had an expiry date. After dating for years, the couple started facing issues in their relationship. Although Parker wanted to make sure she was there for Downey Jr. when he was at his lowest, their relationship came to an end in 1991 due to The Judge star’s substance addiction.

Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica Parker had a great relationship. The couple reportedly joked about having a Jewish wedding at “Le Mondrian Hotel with flamenco dancers.” It seems to reflect that somewhere they looked forward to spending their lives together. However, it all went away due to the Avengers star’s addiction issues.
He suffered from substance addiction from a very young age, and it has also been a dark period in his life and career. Parker has shared that she was always looking out for his well-being. Although she cared about him, it was too much for her, and she decided to walk away from their relationship.
Robert Downey Jr. also opened up about his relationship with Parker.
