Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is among the most popular comic book characters, whether it comes to the comic book world or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His portrayal of the popular character helped bring the comic book world and the superhero mythos to the big screen, quickly making the MCU one of the biggest franchises in the world.
Despite the fame and success of the Iron Man trilogy, Downey’s co-star and acclaimed actress Leslie Bibb revealed that at first, she didn’t understand fans’ obsession with comic books, but later on exclaimed she is grateful to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man Co-star Leslie Bibb On Comic Books
Leslie Bibb starred as Christine Everhart, a Vanity Fair reporter in the Iron Man movies. While the actress has a relatively small role in the franchise, her character serves as the thread that connects Tony Stark’s story across the movies and helps change the media’s perception of Robert Downey Jr.‘s character.
Bibb stated that at first, she wasn’t sure about taking the job but upon her agent’s insistence she went ahead and bagged the role. Having signed an NDA for the script instigated her curiosity, eventually leading her to visit a comic book store, as she revealed in an interview with Collider.
“I do remember when I got the job I went to a comic book store, and I’m not a comic book person. I walked in… and something happened… It was just amazing… I don’t think I understood the obsession with comic books. It hadn’t occurred to me. It was not in my realm of thinking. And the movie came out, and it was huge and sort of changed everything.”
Even though she didn’t really understand the sentiments of fans regarding comic books, her perception greatly changed after witnessing the magic the first Iron Man unleashed across the world.
Leslie Bibb Is Grateful To Be Part Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe
After her short role in the Robert Downey Jr. starrer Iron Man trilogy, Leslie Bibb reprised her role in the web series WHIH Newsfront and What If…?. Even though she didn’t understand the hype around comic books and comic book characters before, the actress is now grateful to be in the MCU. In the interview with Collider, she stated,
“I don’t really feel like a part of the Marvel world because there’s so many superheroes. I think there are people who are like, ‘You’re the person who got him to say he was Iron Man!’ But, you know, it’s not like you’re Black Widow, or you’re wearing a cape. I’m so grateful to be in that world. I loved it when they asked me to come do the What If…?’s.”
Leslie Bibb as Christine Everhart is now a popular character, helping add depth and realism in to the fictional world.
The Iron Man franchise can be streamed on Disney+.
