Tom Holland’s mistake resulted in one of the funniest scenes in MCU

Tom Holland let the nerves get the better of him in his very first scene of MCU but Robert Downey Jr.’s sharp improvisation skills made it one of the funniest scenes in the franchise. In Captain America: Civil War, Tony Stark aka Iron Man went to Peter Parker aka Spiderman’s Queens home to recruit him into Team Ironman.

However, Parker was resisting so Stark went on to sit beside him and give him a pep talk. In that scene, Tom Holland was supposed to move in order to make some space for RDJ to sit on the bed. However, the Uncharted actor allegedly let his nerves get the better of him and forgot to move at all. At that point, Robert Downey Jr. improvised a line in the most ‘Tony Stark way‘ possible and said, “I’m gonna sit here, so you move the leg.

The scene eventually came out so good that the director, Anthony Russo decided to keep it in the final cut of the movie.

Anthony Russo talked about RDJ’s sharp improvisation skills in that scene

Once in an interview, the director of Captain America: Civil War, Anthony Russo talked about Robert Downey Jr.‘s improvisation in that hilarious scene from the movie. He said,

“Tom forgot the blocking of the scene, and of course, that’s Robert staying in character telling him, ‘You’re supposed to move now so I can sit on the bed.’ Not only does he use it, but he uses it in a way that’s really entertaining and fun. That’s such a dexterous and inventive move on an actor’s part.”

Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. did another improvised scene in Spiderman: Homecoming when Holland allegedly tried to hug the Ironman actor who was just grabbing the door in the car.

Holland once revealed in an interview that he thought it would be funny to mess with RDJ. He said, “I just thought it would be funny if I just hugged him and Robert’s instincts are so good; he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m not trying to hug you. I’m just gonna get the door.”

However, with Tony Stark now gone from the MCU, we will not be able to witness any more improvised comedic scenes from this iconic duo.
