The show’s creator made some interesting revelations during the panel. Kirkman divulged that Connor O’Malley turned down a chance to voice a character in the new season. He also rued the fact that he could not get ahold of Cranston. Furthermore, he added that he had offered a role to the Breaking Bad star in each season, but the actor turned him down due to his busy schedule.
Robert Kirkman did not reveal which role he had offered Bryan Cranston on the show. However, he would have been the appropriate choice for one role in particular.
Which role could Bryan Cranston have played in the Invincible?
Cranston is not new to playing an antagonist on the screen, and he was recently seen playing one in Henry Cavill‘s Argylle. His screen presence is remarkable, and given his history of voice acting, the actor would have been perfect as Thragg, the Grand Regent of the Viltrum Empire.
Thragg is the most powerful Viltrumite of all time and the chief nemesis of the Invincible. Born to Emperor Argall, he was trained in different forms of combat, and he used it to bring order to the Empire. Moreover, he was ruthless, and he led a group of Viltrumites after the battle and took on the title of Grand Regent. Cranston would have captured the nuances, traits, and accompanying sense of danger of this character very easily.
Cranston himself wants to play an antagonistic character who has never been seen on screen before. Someone who would not easily concede to the hero. This reiterates how he would have been perfect for Thragg.
“I want to play an antagonist a fraction smarter than the protagonist, never dumbed down to give the hero an easy win. That’s frustrating and boring to watch. I don’t want to do a character that has been done several times before. I don’t want to be compared,” said Cranston (via Screen Geek).
